Thanks to Sirius of Team Picard for driving me crazy. Took me about an hour to solve it. Good Luck all.

Albert Einstein wrote this riddle during the early 19th century. He said
that 98% of the world population would not be able to solve it. Can YOU?

Are you in the top 2% of intelligent people in the world?
Solve the riddle and find out! There are no tricks, just pure logic. Good Luck!
1. On a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.
2. In each house lives a person of a different nationality.
3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke a diferent brand of cigar and keep a different pet.

THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?????????????

HINTS:
1. The Brit lives in a red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The Green house is on the left of the White house.
5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The man living in the centre house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water.

Einstein lived in the early 20th century, is that the correct answer? Razz

How do we know it's a fish??? It could be an aardvark, or even a penguin!!! Shocked

Here is a tougher question: How do you formulate a puzzle like this so that you know the hints lead to exactly one correct answer?

I hope my answer is right. It took me a while... but I agree with Sir Rodent, it COULD be an aardvark as well as a fish. Smile

With all this talk about sheep, aardvarks, herrings, rabbitts, hamsters, etc., etc., I thought that we should maybe have an official KWSN (State) bird.

My suggestion is the Ptarmigan a silly looking bird with a strangly spelled name and feathered feet.

We would need to share this bird with Alaska, but I don't think they would object.

Now that's a question I've been wondering about for some time. Here we have puzzle magazines that are full of this kind of 'logi-quiz'-es as they're called. I suppose there must be a method of making these things similar to the scheme used for solving them.... question question

My initial reaction was that you're a moron. But I digress.

Ornithologically speaking, my initial reaction was: Ah, yessss, the foot-feathered Ptarmigan, an excellent choice. A choice that bespeaks the inescapable fact that you possess considerable ornithological experience and knowledge.

Upon further reflection, it occurred to me that the web-footed booby might be a better choice Smile .

Upon even further reflection I found you still to be a moron, but it occurred to me that the web-footed booby was, somehow, just "wrong" as the official KWSN bird Sad .

I dusted off my extensive library of birding books, and there on page 1878 of the "Morons Guide to Birdies", or perhaps I should say "nesting" on page 1878 (heh, heh... a little birdy humor there Rolling Eyes ) was the answer: The black breasted booby gull ! Shocked Here's a fine example of the breed, just look at the rack on dat bird, will ya ?! Surprised Wooohoo ! Very Happy That baby ought to be working at Hooters !! Shocked

Alternatively, I'm open to the Blue Breasted Titmouse:

But of course the Purple Breasted Titmouse would also be an excellent choice:

Or the Long tailed black breasted titmouse would be good:

No, we're just morons that get obsessive-compulsive about puzzles. Confused Anyone else remember how much effort went onto solving the "Minotaur Maze" puzzles? Wink

Are you suggesting there could be an animal that is part-aardvark and part-fish? A Mere-vark perhaps?? I don't think ants swim all that well, what would this creature eat??? Furthermore, would it be named Eric???? How might I go about getting a license for my pet mere-vark Eric????? question

I think we already have an official KWSN bird:

However, I think we have an opening for an official KWSN (state) mollusk!

Whoops!!! Sorry, wrong mollusk ... here we go ...

Suggestions? Wink

Many of these types of puzzles can be represented as a matrix. Row reduce the matrix and you have solved the puzzle. I haven't hit on the right way to do it for this one yet, because "lives next to" seems to relate two columns of the matrix. Also, every time I think I'm getting close to figuring it out, Eric the aardvark steals my paper and pencil and runs away! Sad Wink
