Digging through old bookmarks and came across this cool little browser game from CERN -

You're director of a particle collider, and it's only you. Click on the center of the core 10 times to create 10 data points. That's enough to discover CP violation, which boosts your reputation to 1, leading to 5 units of funding per second. Your first hire is a Master's student at 40 units, they create 6 units of data per sec (so you don't have to click anymore), and off you go. More funding, new hires, buy upgrades, new discoveries, enhanced reputation and more funding..etc. Enjoy!
