Due to strong votes in both elections, PrimeGrid is the Project Of The Month for February for both CPU and GPU processors. The main attraction is the eighth annual Tour de Primes challenge lasting the entire month. I'll leave it to our PG experts to lead us through this.

- Looks like it's wide open so you can shrub any sub-project for the competition?
- What do you recommend for shrubberlutory crunchations?
- Bunkering is not allowed?
- Since it's a tour, do we have to switch projects during the month?
- No hyperthreading? How to?
- Which projects are newest for badge hunters?
- Strategery?
- Etc.?

http://primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=6605

Starting stats:
11th Place
7,474,502,657. Total points
1,942,312. average daily production

From the tour thread

Currently, the fastest opportunities to find Top 5000 primes is with the SGS (LLR), PPSE (LLR), and GFN-16 (65536) projects. Of course, should someone find a prime in the mega-prime searches, this would almost guarantee the green jersey. All ports in PRPNet are also available for the competition.

So the above are the easiest ways to find primes but you could run anything that isn't a sieve and have at least a small chance of finding a prime. No need to switch during the course of the month but you could if you wanted to. As for hyperthreading it's best to run just the base number of cores and not the hyperthreads as units will crunch faster on non hypered threads.

Sieving will not find a prime.
All the new GFN projects are prime for working on WUProp additional badging.
PPRNet is included.

There is a NEW jersey this year, the Red, which will be given to the person who gets the largest single prime. Last year the Green Jersey for the largest prime score was someone who did a ton of PPSE, SGS, and other smaller primes, they just were lucky enough to get so many that it was larger than those who got mega primes.

SR5, GFN-16, GFN-19 are some of the ones prime for picking. SR5 has been a while since one has been found and could be due soon.

I am currently undetermined what I want to do. My thought has been move my CPUs to GFN-19 and GPUs stick to GFN-15/GFN-16 to try and grab some of those smaller ones. Or just work on the current WUProp numbers I have in mind, which means GFN-16 and GFN-17 Mega.

I'll try Proth Prime Search LLR on 3 cores of my only CPU and GFN-16 on my single GPU.
I'm leaving one core open to run the GPU and 2 ASIC miners.
Sure wish I could afford a farm o' shrubbers. Embarassed

EDIT:
OK, so it all comes back to me like a "hot kiss at the end of a wet fist".
I can't get the right drivers installed for my old DP AMD HD4870, which stops me from running any GFN WU's.
I went through this last year sometime and still can't get it set./
so I'll just chug along with 3 cores of the CPU. Rolling Eyes

Sorry, once again I've lost track of how to turn off hyperthreading. Embarassed I've got the I7 set to use 75% of cores, leaving 1 open for GPU support.

When does this party start, 7 pm tomorrow evening EST? I'm set to run GFN-16 and GFN-19 for GPU + PPSE, SR5, and SGS for CPU.

Reboot your computer and enter thou thine sacred delete keystroke from start up.
Look to the holy BIOS setup screen. The answer lies hidden therein.
Count thou not 8 nor 7 - 6 is no good and 5 is right out.
Lob the holy BIOS at thine foe that the fangs of your multi-threading cpu may be vanquished.

A Shrubber called SirDude has found a prime:

2512670451777·21290000-1 (388,342)

As he's teamless I suggest we fill out the paperwork and unofficially adopt him.

We have over 30 Knights shrubbing, but I don't see any KWSN primes yet... Average daily points have increased by about 500K.

Milestones:
Comtech 35,000,000
Sir Mifun Fat in a Right Place 6,500,000
Edward Englehard 5,500,000
Prawdzik 4,500,000
LanDroid 2,500,000
Spuddly Buddly 25,000

I apparently double checked a PPS prime at some point this past week, but the news blurb hasn't been posted yet

Halfway through this challenge, do we need any changes in strategery? I think SR5 has found a prime since then. Or hold steady as she blows? Shocked

mildew 140,000,000
Robert 13,000,000
Sir Mifun Fat in a Right Place 11,000,000

Looking at my list of notices someone recently found a PPS Mega prime, but I don't see anything about an SR5 prime. PPS Mega can be selected in the preferences, they take a little longer than PPSE or PPS tasks but they give more points as well. Plus you get wuprop hours for PPS Mega that are separate from PPS and PPSE.

Also I got my silver PPS badge finally
