Quote: | Outsmart Ebola Together on World Community Grid aims to help researchers at The Scripps Research Institute develop a treatment for Ebola virus. The computational power donated by World Community Grid volunteers is being used to screen millions of candidate drug molecules to identify ones that can disable the Ebola virus. |

I still have a block of WCG/MCM to finish after last month's Challenge & PotM, then will start chasing the Ebola badge. All while giving Simap props during the Dec. PotM.

From WCG tech uplinger
Quote: | Please note, this project is going to be running slower than our normal applications. So there will be periods during the day that no work can be downloaded for the application. So badge hunting in the early stages of this project will be difficult.
Thanks,

Quote: | Yes it is a feature [opt-in] right now, which is why we also made the project not auto opt-in. This way members who really want the work units download them instead of getting pulled by many other hosts.
The reason for it being slow is we have limited number of rigid work units available before we get to the flexible ones. As mentioned in the beta forums these flexible ones were taking a long time and without checkpoints. So we are working on a fix for that at the moment. Instead of getting to those flexible ones before the checkpointing is working better.
Please be patient as we ramp the project up to normal speed. As mentioned, in the early stages, badge hunting will be difficult. But we are planning to make it easier in the future.
As others have mentioned, we do have other great projects that you can donate your CPU time towards while the project is running slowly.
Thanks,
-Uplinger

Thanks,

The first, once we get checkpointing mid job working, then we will speed it up.
Thanks,

Quote: | World Community Grid Update - January 2015
By: Keith Uplinger
World Community Grid
16 Jan 2015
A brief update on some of the upcoming technical activity at World Community Grid:
In the next few weeks we will experience a few outages to upgrade our environment. First, we will be doing an upgrade to the network infrastructure with some new equipment, which will cause the entire website to go down for a few hours. We will also be upgrading our database servers next weekend. With this extra server capacity we will be exploring how to get the stats updates to run quicker.
On the application side of things, we are working on onboarding a few new science applications as well as fixing a few issues with current projects.
Etc..........
