Spuddly's holiday tips! #1 in an irregular series for bored readers with bored family members looking for some holiday fun!
The Spam Museum, Austin, Minnesota https://www.msu.edu/~dillenbu/exhibits/spam/exspam.html
It sounds like the punch line to a bad joke. And in a way, it is: an entire museum, dedicated to that ineffible, inedible, artery-clogging meat-like substance, Spam. But that's what makes this museum work. The people who built it knew very well the place their product holds in the popular imagination. Some folks think it's wonderful, some folks think it's weird, but nobody takes Spam all too seriously. So neither does the museum, and to wonderful effect. You feel completely at ease here. No one is trying to convince you of anything, or ram their agenda down your throat. People come to Spam at many levels, from the ridiculous to the sublime. All are welcome here.
There are numerous agendas here: telling the corporate story (and thus avoiding too many negatives); making the corporation human; acknowledging the many dedicated Spam fans out there; and not least of all, recognizing the absurdity of it all. The only way to do all that is to just kick back, get creative, and have some fun. After all, it's just Spam.
Featuring of course, "the finest Spam-based comedy sketch ever." https://www.msu.edu/~dillenbu/exhibits/spam/exspam.html _________________ a monster can be excused for his behaviour . . . The problem is not how a monster could do it, but how a human being did it.
