We have just upgraded our BOINC server to the latest version. If you encounter any issue, please try re-attaching to our project. 25 Mar 2013, 18:11:32 UTC |
ReAttach at http://volpex.cs.uh.edu/VCP/
It shows up in BOINC as project "Parallel Execution on Volunteer Environment"

Quote: | Volpex@UH is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in creating effective parallel computing on multiple volatile nodes. |
I normally don't shrub projects that are so vague. However, I see there are 5 Phds on this project including David Anderson of Berkeley. Also found this in their FAQ.
Quote: | What is the goal of Volpex?
The state of the art of parallel computing on volunteer nodes is generally limited to applications with “master- slave” or “bag-of-tasks” parallelism (a task does its own portion of the job without communicating with other tasks). The current bag-of-tasks model on BOINC works well. However, many scientific applications are not bag-of-task as they naturally require communication between tasks; therefore, they cannot run with BOINC without significant modifications. Our project aims to remove that limitation, enabling BOINC to work with a larger class of scientific applications so that we can support many more interesting projects that will benefit the world in the future.

Sounds excellent! Here's a shocker: I'm gonna shrub it!
Uh-oh, server status currently looks kinda jacked up and only 250K points generated for the entire project in the last month.

Heh, I misread the 2nd post in this thread and attached to the old server anyway. On board now... Got a WU immediately, but status is "waiting to run (scheduler wait)" and the deadline is in 3 mintues.
Update: currently shrubbing 4 WUs in high priority mode that are already past the deadline unless it's listed in Texas time.
Update: Completed those 4 in 11 to 17 minutes, but they must have been the last ones: no WUs available.
This project is "different", as advertised.
For others easily confused, this project has moved to:

In the true spirit of distributed computing, they're distributing the project to as many servers as they can get their hands on. _________________
