By a ridiculously wide landslide vote margin, Asteroids is the CPU Project of the Month for January 2014!
Quote:
The project Asteroids@home was started with the aim to significanly enlarge our knowledge of physical properties of asteroids. The BOINC application uses photometric measurements of asteroids observed by professional big all-sky surveys as well as 'backyard' astronomers. The data is processed using the lightcurve inversion method and a 3D shape model of an asteroid together with the rotation period and the direction of the spin axis are derived.

http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/

Knights will be enhancing the Database of Asteroid Models from Inversion Techniques. So shrub it DAMIT! And check out the brand new GPU/Nvidia app while you're at it!

Starting stats:
21st Place
22,298,080 Total points
1,102,080 average daily production past week
151,730 RAC 20th place

I move my Android over to Asteroids, I will be moving my non-AVX processors over after I get the next badge (trophy) on SkyNet (about 2-3 days). My AVX will move over to PG for the GFN challenge for much of the 15 days.

Anyone try out the CUDA app there, yet? I have been reading that it's pretty slow, but their CPU app is so optimized it's making the GPU app seem slow. Seems they are working on an OpenCL for ATI and also optimizing their CUDA app a little more.

I have never seen so unoptimized Mac OS X apps as they have.

DP CUDA? CUDA GPGPU? Gim'y a break...

I thought the science has potential, now I am not so sure #Beer .

I will come back to them when they do something positive in optimization of their apps #Mad

Hang in there, Branjo!
Quote:
To all GPUs fans. This is first public version and our development do not stop with this version.

Next version update will:

1. Use less memory. (example Titan 1100MB -> 688MB). Little speedup.
2. I will try to move some memory arrays to textures with int2 texels. This may speedup app.

PS: It looks like we made to much fast CPU apps Very Happy

Cuda report:

CPU: i7 3770k hyperthreaded running avx WUs range from 7000-8000 sec
GPU: 660ti ran for about 7000 sec
all under Linux

I choose not to go with GPU on this one for now.

The new WU's for the Asteroids are turning to dust before they hit the atmosphere on the ASUS pad (ARMv7 Processor rev 9 (v7l) @1700MHz).
All have been errors since Christmas, what a waste Sad
The ones I've run on my computer seem to be doing fine... 3 hours for each X 4 cores.
I hope to get the 1,000,000 badge by months end.

Alas, it seems several people are having issue with the Android application on this project. Mine was also failing several. All those wasted hours. So I move my Android back over to SkyNet for now. I was thinking on adding it to Einstein and seeing how it does over there. Anyone try the Android Einstein application yet?

using the android version of official boinc i can't get it to pull Einstein units. it just says repeatedly tasks not needed, even when there are no other tasks loaded.

I was given full credit for ALL the WU that were formerly "computing error" on my ASUS android pad. Very Happy
Alas, I moved it over to Milkyway for the hour count on WUprop@Home...
one thing about shrubbing with the androids,, the WU's take forever and count as HUGE hours for the WUprop.
Another weird thing with the Astroids I shrubbed on the Android pad is that they got reported as points in Boinc and but because they went first to errors, they never got reported to the NativeBoinc and the Asteroids@Home program doesn't even show as one of my Projects there.
Maybe I'll try some more Asteroid flavored android again when my HTC-One gets tired of the POGS it's been on since October.
