Ran across this project by accident, some guy soliciting $37K to build a pharm of 5 high end shrubbers and pay the 'lectric bill. Nothing wrong with that I s'pose if you can convince people to pony up, but seems like he should relate the boinc credit to the donors rather than himself. He offers incentives such as having the pharm shrub your project of choice for one month for a $500. donation.
I never realized participating in the KWSN PotM saved me $500./month! But those $ don't seem to be accumulating in a savings account anywhere?
Dean Schaeffer has built 2 of the 5 shrubbers, but was not successful in reaching his $37K goal in time, don't know what that means for overall project status?
Have a look and let us know what you think....

Interesting "project" ... I have donated to Kickstarter solicitations for musicians I have known personally, to produce their next CD. There is always a benefit of at least a cd or download in return.
I have a few problems with this proposal however; not surprised it went unfulfilled. First is the rewards: agree, the points & credits should be directed to major contributors somehow. Second: Yes, the electrical costs are high to run a basement full of equipment and my own ISP actually "forbids" running servers without a business account...(but what they don't know is still none of their business.),, none-the-less, only paying for the electricity for a single year seems a bit short sighted. Can't help but notice that most of you guys have been doing this for over a decade. Thirdly: and related,, So they get 5 real nice servers out of the deal to keep for themselves after the 1 year "project" is finished. Seems a bit selfish... maybe donate them to one of the boinc projects or the local school system.
Fourthly: There is no fourthly, by command of the Powers-That-Wield-Power.
... and Fifthly: Spending the money to test should include seeing how affordable and cheaply you can build an efficient machine to do the job rather than seeing what sort of high-end parts can be assembled to get expected results... So, the Fifthly, by definition, is RIGHT OUT!

Isn't the whole point of distributed computing to obviate the need for high end shrubbers by breaking work into tasks that can be crunched by more cost effective machines, gradually changing with the current technology's sweet-spot?
Almost all his credit is in GPU projects, so what are these free high-end CPUs doing? _________________
