|
|
Quote: | We are excited to announce the release of GPU processing capability for the Help Conquer Cancer project! This capability allows our members to contribute using their machines' graphics cards, thus giving our community of volunteers another avenue to advance the Help Conquer Cancer research project.
Earlier this year, the Help Conquer Cancer researchers published a paper explaining the reimplementation of their algorithms to take advantage of high-performing GPU hardware. You may review an abstract of the paper and access it here. In addition, you may learn more about GPU processing by reviewing our FAQs and by visiting our GPU Forum.
We sincerely thank all of our members for the computing power that they donate to advance the Help Conquer Cancer research project.

Have we been checking this project out, is it worth adding to the GPU ballot? |

I'm in. First GPU shrub took ~4.5 min for 32.5 credits....
However it pulls a Whole CPU core. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

It can be shrubbed on Wins only
edit to ad: but, since there are lot of other project supporting only Wins, we can add also this one to the list _________________

after almost 24 hours I have shrubbed about 8600 credits on WCG-GPU. not very impressive when you think that I would have done about 200K on Milky and had another 2 cores available for Eon/Pogs....
However I have moved up 3017 places in WCG & 3 spots in the team...
And the team hasn't budged an Inch.. & were probably not gonna either...
Edit: To be honest I do have 8 pages of Pending, so about another ~ 4200 credits...........
so only about 1.5 orders of magnitude less.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Is that using your 5970??
My 5870 gets ~29K/hr on Poem. _________________

It is a 5970. A dual core cyprus.
The 5890 is gathering dust in a box I cant seem to get to fire up....
It gets 200K a day in Milky if I leave it alone
I tried like mad to get them both to run in a single machine but I failed miserably.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

You know my biggest complaint is that not only does it take two cores on my box ( one for each GPU Core ) but it runs for 30 seconds or so before it starts using the GPU at all, and then it runs for another 30 or so seconds at the end at 99.415% not using the GPU again. So it is wasting 25% of my time as the units could be done in ~3 minutes instead of 4+.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Correction: my 5870 gets ~12K/hr on Poem, 29K is for both 5870 and 570 combined.
I think some projects require a GPU be in slot 0. I don't know the details, I only have single GPU systems.
The CPU usage at the beginning and end of the WUs may be loading the data and taking the results from the GPU, so may be a memory bandwidth issue. _________________

It is still much better than Zweistein@Home - with my 6770M I am earning 6000 - 8000 Bbucks per day (22 - 23 hours)... _________________

Blurf, go to your WCG account page and in Project Preferences edit to allow GPU.
Gemjunkie, I just put my 5870 in the box with the 5970. Running 3 cores on Poem now. They take between 1:15 & 1:20 each so about 168k a day.
The WU only pulls about 25% more or less on each GPU core with the 12.8 drivers. I read on a couple boards that it runs better with the 12.11 Beta 4 drivers so I am downloading them now. We will see _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Yeah, the WU reserves a CPU core. If your running a CPU app & you don't want to then you missed a check
Update on the 12.11 drivers:
It definitely runs smoother, the GPU usage doesn't bounce around at all like it did before and it seems to run faster. The first Wu finished in 1:05 and that was partially done with the 12.8 driver. It looks like it may bring times down to under 1 hour. Definitely worth it.
I'm kinda afraid to run a Milky Wu on it as they use so much more GPU. Milky's run around 70c and these run around 50c. I'll try some later just for fun.
Update: It is running a Poem Wu in ~45min now. That is a 40% increase
in Shrubism.....
That brings it to ~235k a day _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

We kinda got off topic here, What a surprise, Which project is causing the lag Blurf. WCG, Milky or Poem?
I think that there was a noticible lag on WCG for me, _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

No we didn't..this topic is about the WCG GPU...and that is what's driving my machine nuts. _________________

Yeah I quit running it, Honestly it just Pissed me off, Lousy credits & it took a full Cpu per Gpu core and I am now running 3 Gpu cores with a Quad Cpu. To be honest I don't remember if it caused a Lag for sure but I think it did. I am running Poem on the ATI cards and Prime Grid on the Nvidia.
10.5 min? What Gpu are you running it on? they only took 4.5 on mine and that was with the 12.8 drivers. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
