Has anyone installed NativeBOINC on their Android device? If so, what project(s) have you tried or run? What devices (phone, tablet, Raspberry PI)?

Any tips or tricks, issues, positive or other feedback?

It seems there are over 1/2 dozen projects that now can be run on Android devices and growing.

The list I find so far is:
Enigma@Home
MilkyWay@Home
OProject@Home
Primegrid
SubsetSum@Home
WuProp@Home

Radioactive@Home looks like only runs on Raspberry PI.

I have run MW, Subset, WUprop, and Oprojects. I have a Samsung Captivate so PG gave huge run times so i have not finished a WU for that. Enigma has told me several times it has no tasks. It didn't take long to run Subset on my phone (2.5-3 hrs), so a newer phone should be even faster and it gives the same number of credits as a reg shrubber. WUProp and oprojects are similar in that they run fairly quickly. MW took me considerably longer, but that's ok.

I didn't know that you could do that on the Android.

How hot will the device become if you let it run 100% for a prolonged time?

I turned on the power saving mode and that helps mine to not get too hot from what i've noticed, but i suppose it depends on your phone

So a dumb question. Is this an actual app I can download from the Google store on my Android phone?

Thanks I might give that a shot.

Does anyone know how it reacts if your phone runs out of battery? Also is it possible to turn it off when I need to save some battery life?

I thought Enigma was long dead? Gotta be something special about decoding WWII encrypted German messages on a phone. We gotta research if this is a good pickup line for the chix. Cool

Radioactive@home - never heard of it, looks like fun. Have any Knights ordered a sensor? I can't figger out how much it costs.

I expect at some point our phones will be as powerful as current desktop computers. Are there any GPU cards for Android? Shocked

Radioactive@home does nothing unless you shell out money for a radiation detector. Last I heard they are not available yet.

In order to stop the app from crunching you simply open the app, push the menu softkey on your phone and push shutdown, then confirm it and it will stop the app. to start it later you do the same thing but it will say start up instead of shutdown.

As for Enigma the situation is

Quote:

No work available
As probably everyone noticed, there is no work available for a long period of time.
Unfortunately it's not going to change soon, because I have to find a replacement server.
The old machine is not reliable anymore, it passes stress tests yet freezes randomly after couple of days (or even weeks sometimes) during normal operation, which is not acceptable.
The worst part however are the HDDs, only two still alive, one is damaged already while the other starts to suffer from old age (was online for over 3,5 years).

In current state the server barely keeps the website up, so any work has to wait until I'll get the new hardware setup, which is going to take a while.

Radioactive does require you to actually buy something for their WUs to do anything.

I was thinking on doing either OProject or SubsetSum. Both look interesting.

I have not downloaded it yet, just was getting some ideas. My phone stays plugged in 95% of the time. I see a lot of phones doing work, so I think mine should be OK.

Can you set it to not work on Battery (like normal BOINC)? I have not seen that on the site and if that were the case I'd really like it.

OK, I decided to try it on my phone. It took two installs (had to uninstall and reinstall because the first one just kept crashing).

I am running OProject@Home. Tasks take about 10 minute on my phone and give 8 credits. This will be approximately 48 credits an hour, for a phone.

Since I just started it, I have no idea on heat, etc. I did notice when the phone is switching tasks it pauses my input a little.

More updates in a day or two after I figure out how well she rolls.

I added 1 PC just to get my CID to match, that did an ALX in about 10 minutes. So my phone ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l) @1188MHz is just as fast as my PC Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz on processing these units.

[edit1] Stupid me needs to learn how to count time correctly...
[edit2] Added PC information

Running sweet on my phone. No heat issues and getting regular credit. Of course this is one project. Other projects might give you different results.

I still use the old BOINCManager (have not found any of the new ones I like), and it plays well with NativeBOINC. I have not tried to add projects or anything yet, but it's nice.

I just wish NEOSOFT would catch up on adding new projects. There are several not there and that is the site that is used for all the BOINC projects local stats you see on your account. Both SkyNet and OProject came up in August, it is now October and they have not been added yet.

Anyway, I like the Android shrubbing. The average is still 8 credits in just under 10 minutes and over the 24 hour + period the numbers jive very well.

I do not know how much data is flowing since my phone sits on WiFi most of the time data isn't getting eaten. I will be testing the usage the weekend of the 12-14.

I have installed on my Mo-Pho. I am running SubsetSum, WU's are benchmarked at 7:57 hours each, However after 30min they are at 6:12. I have a ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7l) @1000MHz
(2 processors)

so its running 2 tasks at a time. I'll let y'all know what the credit is and if there are any issues #ni-1
