Protein Optimization with Energy Methods
By joining this project you will contribute to a computational approach to:
* Predict the biologically active structure of proteins.
* Understand the signal-processing mechanisms when the proteins interact with one another.
* Understand diseases related to protein malfunction or aggregation.
* Develop new drugs on the basis of the three-dimensions structure of biologically important proteins.
POEM@HOME implements a novel approach to understand these aspects of protein structure, which lends itself very well to worldwide distributed computing. The scientific approach behind POEM@HOME is a computational realization of the thermodynamic hypothesis that won C. B. Anfinsen the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1972.

Takes a bit of effort to shrub this project well. _________________

Production is up 33% to 584K average daily over the past week. We should pass Team USA in 9 or 10 days... |

I think the next 2 teams are in reach, but the 3rd above would take over a month
http://boincstats.com/en/stats/58/team/list/0/0#34
Canal@boinc (3rd above) is about 20 mil credit discrepency, with 14 or 15 days left in the month (or less depending on next month's voting. But we should beat AMD users... _________________

They might have pulled them or are just letting the WUs run dry. There main page mentions a bug in a recent release of their software for OpenCL, and I'm noticing another slight issue starting Friday that I hadn't seen previously.
The one they mention is the progress indicator not moving forward on some tasks, I'm noticing that something with their WU is making my laptop here run hotter then normal. Basically hot enough for it to throttle the GPU's clock back to default (from the boosted clock, and yes Keppler based gfx cards do have their own equivallent to the sort of "turbo boost" present on modern day core i procs from Intel).
So, given SETI's CUDA version won't work on Keppler's (I'm getting the same bug others had noted a beta driver version ago, with the lattest drivers), I'm running the cache dry atm to allow for swapping the opti-app in without trashing the few astropulse WUs I have, it didn't run a few for a bit and the GPU clock was back up. (Yes, the CPU and the GPU can effect each other's temps if they're sharing cooling pipes in a laptop's design, which I gather mine they do...) So I figured, well it's all SETI's app, I didn't crunch SETI before now with POEM. No such luck, because when it went back down, I suspended SETI for a bit, stopped crunching to let temps drop, regained, and wouldn't you know the current POEM WUs they're runing, are just running my laptop warm enough it wants to throttle it's clock down a bit, with the CPU having hit 85 C, though the GPU wasn't above 57 C.... (Yeah some of the heat going to the CPU is because of the sharing of cooling pipes for the 2... Well in time I might get a cooling mat for this, but it wasn't an issue prior to Friday, before whatever, it never throttled...)
Well, some of the tasks doing that, are ones where the progress indicator freezes, and it looks like a few tasks don't load up to the GPU, which of course means things aren't heating up, and could be those busted up WUs they were mentioning.. I had a few not use the GPU much at all, and one that took over an hour to complete (whereas even throttled it normally took only 33 mins, vs 28 mins at full speed, 1 hr 10 mins is completely abnormal... Either way, they're running the cache down, and some bugs in thier code putting resulting in sending out buggy tasks is all I can think of. The project, has cut things a bit short unless they get new tasks up soonish... _________________

Work is flowing again at POEM....
Though on a side note, SETI is proving themselves unable to handle the sort of ramp up, that a team event brought their way in terms of increased crunching. They're down for maitenance yet again (after not that long ago), and in the interum their servers remained unresponsive for WU downloads along the way, finally giving at times 0.45 KB/sec, wtf? downloads when they finally got around to it). _________________
