Quote: | Einstein@Home uses your computer's idle time to search for weak astrophysical signals from spinning neutron stars (also called pulsars) using data from the LIGO gravitational-wave detectors, the Arecibo radio telescope, and the Fermi gamma-ray satellite. Einstein@Home volunteers have already discovered more than three dozens new neutron stars, and we hope to find many more in the future. Our long-term goal is to make the first direct detections of gravitational-wave emission from spinning neutron stars. Gravitational waves were predicted by Albert Einstein almost a century ago, but have never been directly detected. Such observations would open up a new window on the universe, and usher in a new era in astronomy.

You will not get a lot of points off this project. The GPU units pay 500 credits. So if you are looking to gain a lot of ground quick, you will not be very successful.
It is also recommended you have a CPU free for the GPU work, so if you prefer using all your CPU power your GPU will be even slower on this project. |

For those who don't read the Einstein fora, or understand the above statement, Einstein gives framed certificates if you are the finder of a Pulsar (and I am sure if something else is significantly found, also). |

it only runs about 50% on each GPU and eats one CPU core as well.
Often it runs at 0% for quite a while on the GPU, Not a very efficient app...
20% in 20 min so about 1.5 hour for each shrub.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

It was a joke. Sadly it's pretty hard for me to make a joke in english. Sort of. _________________

The good thing is there is real certificates, so joke or no joke, it works out well. When I started with the original SETI in the end of 1990s/early 2000s, before BOINC, I never imagined that we'd have so many diverse projects doing this. I've been a lucky finder of some very significant Primes on PrimeGrid, I know there have been others on our team that have had other neat milestones on different projects, also. So as a team we may be a bit Looney, but we are also pretty tried and true to our Shurbbaries and make a dent in many different areas. |

PhastPhred introduced these work projects to me just last year. I have to say, this is one of the most fascinating things people have ever come up with. Maybe I'm just an old hippie but when I see people from all over the world working together for a common goal it does my heart good. _________________

Yes, it is a very poor paying project, but the results are very interesting and has a physical reward if you do find something.
Plus it seems there is a good percentage of pending (although currently it seems better since our team has made a little push, which is nice to see).
I'll stick it out through the month. |

VERY Interesting.
Just found out that it is possible to run more than 1 WU concurrently on my GPU for this project.
Theory is that it will almost double my output by running 2 WU's. Can it run 3, 4 or 5 even? If 5 WU's can be run concurrently that will put my daily production up to about 120K rather than the paltry 13-15 recent output.
Gonna see how far this can be pushed before it breaks. Will keep you posted
GPU is a GTX 560 Ti with 1.25Gb ram on-board. It uses 0.2 CPU per WU.
Name NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Adapter Type GeForce GTX 560 Ti, NVIDIA compatible
Adapter Description NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Adapter RAM 1.25 GB (1,342,177,280 bytes)
Oh by the way. Not detected any slow down for the 2 WU's currently being shrubbed concurrently.

Quick update on this.
There is a slow down in the length of time taken for each WU from 44mins to 50mins.
Gonna try 3 concurrently now
Wish me luck. _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?
