By a wide vote margin, eOn is PotM for February 2012.
Quote:
eOn: Long timescale dynamics

A common problem in theoretical chemistry, condensed matter physics and materials science is the calculation of the time evolution of an atomic scale system where, for example, chemical reactions and/or diffusion occur. Generally the events of interest are quite rare (many orders of magnitude slower than the vibrational movements of the atoms), and therefore direct simulations, tracking every movement of the atoms, would take thousands of years of computer calculations on the fastest present day computer before a single event of interest can be expected to occur, hence the name eon, which is an indefinitely long period of time. Our research group is interested in calculating the long time dynamics of systems.

Plomos warned about lack of checkpointing, but WU's take about 1 - 4 hours, so this doesn't appear to be a huge problem.

KWSN can scratch one more Virgin off "The List".

Starting stats:
20th Place
1,767,886 Points
1,092 RAC 36th Place
31,487 shrubbed last 28 days
1,497 crunched yesterday
37th Place Formula Boinc

All servers running:
Results ready to send 997
Results in progress 3,352

Milestones:
skippio2 10,000
LanDroid 1,000
PhastPhred 200
Plomos 100

Where shall we keep the trophy from taking this one off "The List"?

Well, the lack of checkpointing will cost some, given the shrubbing is done on a laptop, and it does move around a bit; but there are times in a given day were it's up for 1-4+ hours.... Well, I had tried setting it to sleep rather then shutdown, in moving it; but the battery is dieing, and as to replacement batteries; well tbh if I had money I'd be in the market for a whole new shrubber #ni-1

Anyhow connecting, there's about 1.5 Einstein units left to shrub from last month...

I have a bunch of seti to finish....not sure how long I'll do Eon due to the lack of checkpointing.

Don't sleep, hibernate. No power used.

KWSN already moved up 16 places in Formula Boinc. More Knights are checking out a new project:

Milestones:
Blurf passes 2,000
ohiomike passes 500

Crank it up and strap on your scabbards - there are fair maidens to be rescued!

I tried all kinds of stuff, including telling it to hibernate last time we had a project that didn't have checkpoints. This thing didn't just come back up, but rebooted fresh. But then it's an old laptop (sorta) which is also on it's last legs (the internal screen doesn't work anymore, requirng an external monitor now).... Windows 7 is throwing a few computer problem messages; which my best guess would be the beginnings of some hardware degredation... Oh well, hopefully I'll have a bit more money soonish....

Oh, and if that can happen, a GPU shrubber could allow for some real crunching, against the backdrop of peeps pulling 10s of thousands of credits a day on a single box #ni-1

Not much production improvement in the last few days. I suspect some of this is due to the large Einstein binary star WU's. (I just aborted my last one that wanted 70 hours to complete and would be about 12 hours late.)

'Stones:
Sir Stooper passes 30,000

Well, given I'm not on the net 24/7, it only downloads 1 WU per core, and the rather low credit rewards per turn in, it hampers things to like 2 WUs a day, for most days.... That might be improvng the mddle of the month, if Verizon is sorted out, and installing then....

Well, in any case, those somewhat oldish CPDN tasks give the proc something to do, while waiting for new WU downloads, or for those times I know BOINC won't be up for hours at a time, either due to having to move the comp, or when I go to play online, with this ageing laptop that seems to not have the resources to run BOINC, and an online game at the same time; without having to swap heavily on this not so fast built in hard drive.... Ya know? 2 GB RAM isn't what it used to be Surprised #ni-1 Well it's some return....

Milestones:
The Knights Who Say Ni! passes 1,900,000

Blurf passed 10,000
ohiomike passed 10,000
LanDroid passes 4,000
PhastPhred passed 2,000

Yep, Eon said 1200+ WU's available, but wouldn't send any. Updated Eon prefs to allow test units and got 6. Looks like they're half-size shrubs - a little unruly, but nothing a good trim won't fix. Good work Dow!

Dang it, just when our production jumped from 23K to 42K. Update prefs quickly Kanigits - before the other teams figger this out!

I saw someone already complaining about low credits with these new beta WU's, so let's not adopt a British Frumperty attitude 'bout that just yet...

Hopefully the other teams do not get wise and read our forum.

Only adopt that attitude after the month is over.
