I hope this is the right place to discuss, but has anyone got any good tips on getting through WUs?
I currently run the CLI on a 1700 processor and avg about 4hrs per WU, I am on XP, and on 2000, I was getting an avg of 3.5!!!
I want my PC to crunch @ warp speed!!!
Any help appreciated! _________________ www.richardhibbert.co.uk |

Me thinks running the CLI is the best optimization you can do, and you already got that one...
If you're not going to use the computer for anything else you can set priority of the SETI process to normal via the task manager. That way Windows won't steal as many cycles from you. However, that will only be a very small difference, and your computer will feel slow when you use it. _________________

No, you did ask in the correct forum, but you are already doing the optimizations. The biggest difference is running the client vs. the screensaver. The only other way to increase production is with a borg script and a lot of visiting your relatives
Windows XP does "more for you" in the background, and consequently steals clock cycles away from all DC projects. I've found W2K to be the fastest DC operating system that still supports my pesky end-users. (What do they really need a computer for, anyway, can't they see that everytime they use it, it slows down my production rate? )

I thought it may be be XPs user friendly(ness) that had reduced my rate!
Oh well, keep crunching for me then! Just curious how people seem to get through WU's so quick! Is it because they have access to multiple pcs?
Thanks for your assistance!
p.s what is a Borg script? _________________ www.richardhibbert.co.uk |

Many people have multiple PC:s.
When you become a real stats-junkie, you will by more computers just to see your numbers increase...
"Borging" means you assimilate someones computer to your cause.
There are ways to hide the client, if you suspect that the owner of the assimilated computer might disapprove. _________________

Borging is good!
I knew of that technique, but had never heard it called "borging"
What a class term for it!
I will assimilate!!!! _________________ www.richardhibbert.co.uk |

well it depends on what kind of toaster you have, anywhere from 9 hours to a little over a day. Just depends if it is an older toaster or a newer and faster toaster.

I am sure an X box will have a good process rate!
I will plug one in to SETI and see! _________________ www.richardhibbert.co.uk |

It also helps to have friends who are geeks and let you visit and borg their LAN's
2/3 of my daily production comes from other poeples houses, using other peoples power bills
It gets to be rather addictive... this weekend I stayed at a friends, and installed setidriver just so that I would have a cache on my gaming system and not loose any processing time. Next is the ac inverter in my truck, so that even travel time is usefull cpu time

SillyKing is one of are more sane and less obessed members, if you want obessed just look at the Folding team and some of the top SETI people.

It could be your running into a bunch longer WU's. I forget which ones took longer, but either High or low angles took longer to process. When I was running seti, I used SETIQUEUE which was great, since it gave an average time for all WU's and would cache days worth of WU's in case of any server outages. _________________ Check out our website

Questions like this come up often enough that it's probably worth keeping an example around.
