Quote:
Formula Boinc (FB) is a ranking system for the Boinc teams, based on the principle of the Formula 1 Championship. Each project is considered as a "Grand-Prix". The 10 best teams on each project get a fixed number of FB points.

Formula Boinc points :

1st = 25 points FB
2nd = 18 points FB
3rd = 15 points FB
4th = 12 points FB
5th = 10 points FB
6th = 8 points FB
7th = 6 points FB
8th = 4 points FB
9th = 2 points FB
10th = 1 point FB

...The FB ranking will be calculated on the basis of credits accrued during the year.So each team gets a new chance to enter the FB hall of fame.

The final goal of the Formula Boinc Trophy, more than simply being a new stats site with its winner, is to promote competition between teams on all projects and not on particularly crediting ones. Each project having the same weight in this trophy, no project is more or less interesting than another. This should also help small or new projects at a time when more and more projects are joining the Boinc platform.

http://formula-boinc.org/

There is new interest in the Formula Boinc competition, so I figgered it deserves it's own thread. (May duplicate the July vacation thread at times?) KWSN is currently in 17th place with 56 Formula Boinc points.

I took a quick spin earlier at which projects would help KWSN the most in Formula Boinc. The following list, like a dog sitting on sandpaper, is RUFF! It needs to be refined - I did not take into account availability of WU's, RAC's of teams ahead of us, amount of credit granted, etc. I deleted uFluids 'cause it is dead. Some have been coded Blue where work is intermittent. You might attach to those projects and shrub when work is available and ignore it when not. (Any others need to be blue?)

Sztaki (Only 10K points to snag 2 FB's, 1 million points could win 11?)
Virtual Prairie (200K wins 1 FB, 700K points could win 12?)
Lattice Project (110K to snip 1 FB, 500K points could win 25 FB's? May have WU's for Cuda GPU?)

Constellation (480K to grab 1 FB, 2.5 million could win 25 FB's?)
Edges (200K wins 1 FB, 1 million wins 4?) Low credit per Plomos.
Cosmology (500K points to win 1 FB?)
Ibercivis (900K points to win 2 FB?)
Quake Catcher (50K to steal 1 FB, 260K wins 25?)
RSA Lattice Siever (200K snags 2 FB, 2.1 million wins 25?)
Superlink (400K snips 1 FB, 1.5 million wins 25?)

Sztaki is the first prong of the attack. Need more research on the others...

Testing out constellation now to have a look at it.

It should be noted though that you will want to put the url into boinc as http://aerospaceresearch.net/constellation/ and not http://aerospaceresearch.net/constellation_idcard/index.html as boinc doesn't recognize the second url but does the first

I started Sztaki last night. It looks like the credit for it is consistent, working out to be 16 credits/hour/core, or about 700 credits a day. YMMV.

Here is how it looks today at 5pm PST -

Rk FB Credt RACrd Team
01 3081859 30216 SETI.USA
02 2784001 21845 BOINC@Poland
03 2337409 01301 Ars Technica
04 2023409 09320 Czech National Team
05 1829430 05179 L'Alliance Francophone
06 1612790 08178 Infobanya
07 1517234 08242 Hungary
08 1100693 05720 Hungarian National Team
09 1083126 03393 The Knights Who Say Ni!
10 0966498 05055 ELTE
11 0926133 03221 BOINC Synergy
12 0900255 03729 Sicituradastra.
13 0723118 12566 Team Norway
14 0569035 00000 XtremeSystems
15 0569035 17210 Dutch Power Cows

It looks like Team Norway and Dutch Power Cows will catch us in 35-40 days and ELTE in 60+ days. The Hungarian National Team is not far ahead of us if we can start to outproduce them, but it looks tougher after that.

Forth

HA! Take that, stupid BB formatting!

I'm not worried 'bout Norway, they'll get distracted by the parrots we send their way. But the Kows are upping Sztaki production significantly: 18K yesterday, 26K already today compared to just under 5K for KWSN.

Someone asked about the best GPU project to help in Formula Boinc. I don't own one, but took a quick look 'round and it appears Prime Grid is the best candidate. We're in 10th place with 1 FB, but could be difficult to move up.

Looks like we're way too far behind the FB Top 10 in other GPU projects. On the other hand, we do have 6 months to go - what do the experts say?

Quake catcher requires additional hardware and runs all the time (very little cpu usage). Making it Potm would be pointless.

Sztaki also never runs out of work as well.

Maybe Chess@Home could be considered.

Just a bit more work in Sztaki and we move up a spot in FB.

Also maybe target Spinhenge, we are currently 11th for this year and could move up a couple of spots to get some FB points.

PrimeGrid has started cutting credit for PPS sieve, 50% over 12 weeks. If you're planning to crunch it, do it sooner rather than later.

Validation in Constellation can take a while, quorum of 3. It takes time to ramp up, like RNAWorld.

You just get your credit spread out over time.

We're picking up a little steam in Sztaki. We initially fell from 10K to 15K behind, but are now only 2K away from 2 more FB's...

I only have 2300 pending in Sztaki, I'm running Constellation, Sztaki, Renderfarm, primaboinca, Spinhenge, RNA & a couple of Aqua on CPUs; Collatz, Moo & PrimeGrid on GPUs.

Busy vacation. Laughing

I'll push some more Sztaki.

We should be covered for Sztaki (although we probably won't hold it for long), I've got over 18K pending. Time for me to move on to Spinhenge!
