|
|
By a strong majority of 11 votes out of 17, the Project of the Month for December 2011 is Distributed Data Mining. There is precedence for this, we crunched SHA-1 two month in a row way back near the beginning of the PotM journey.
KWSN will not state why we're doing this - don't want to wake up a sleeping giant.
Quote: | Laryngeal high-speed video classification (on-going)
The automatic identification of voice disorders is one particular field of interest of Daniel Voigt's work. Audio recordings of the acoustical voice signal are analysed with specialized software quantifying the amount of perturbation (noise) in the signal. Through automated feature extraction from the recordings and subsequent machine learning analysis, laryngeal movement patterns can be quantitatively captured and automatically classified according to different diagnostic classes.
Stock Price Prediction (on-going)
In this case study, we try to improve time series forecasting methods. In 2006, we started the analysis of Stock Market Data by using Artificial Neural Networks [5]. The results were published as book [6]. Later on, we could improve our results by applying Support Vector Machines[7]. In 2009, we started testing standard machine learning algorithm to build forecast models for Dow Jones, S&P500, German Stock Index and NIKKEI index. In addition, we try to extend existing approaches and develop new forecasting methods. Thereby, we will focus on aspects of temporal pattern evolution.

335349 WU's are currently available for the medical study. The stock price project doesn't seem to be active.
I guess we can use the original starting stats to see how far we come in 2 months...
Starting Stats 11/6/11:
2nd Place
12,043,279 Points
26,936 RAC
455,509 shrubbed last 28 days
57,078 crunched yesterday
1st Place Formula Boinc with 25 FB Points |

I have let Nico know we are sticking around and he will do his best to keep the queues filled.
It has been noticed that the site does a disappearing act every so often and is unreachable for several minutes at a time. Nico has noticed this especially with our heavier load on it. He is looking into the situation and is working with others to see how to adjust. It seems that a lot of the stat sites run their feeds near the same time and may be taxing their system at that period of time, as it seems to happen hourly at about the same time.
Maybe some of the stats sites could work together to stop overtaxing the smaller guys.
Anyway, on to #1 and some good buffer afterward! |

Does that mean he automatically becomes admin?

Great news for all of those who had issues (like myself) with DDM finding Java. Nico has a new version out that uses the Java path(s) instead of the Windows path(s) which fixes what Windows breaks during some Windows patches (IE9 is one of them).
So try it out! Help us create a grandiouscious buffer that we deserve (yes I like making up words).
Let's make this project understand why we should be #1!
Shrub away.
Code: | p.s. Pooh Bear 27 passes 1,100,000 shrubs. |

I ran into a new problem. My security software updated to a new version, now it seems to find dDM suspicious, it uses >50% CPU whenever dDM WUs are running. When I suspend the dDM WUs, AV usage drops to 0%.
It's always something.

I use Avast Free and the latest version of the dDM WUs and have no problems at all. Also see if you can add it to an exception list _________________

All in good fun mr. Phred. You have squeeked past me but if the current WU would hurry up and finish I could pass you again. I find it rare that my efforts have me pass active team members in a project so I am enjoying our mini contest here _________________
