My trust dual-core took a dive last night...either power supply or MB...no idea yet. My hands are bad for hardware work so I have someone coming in Friday to assess it. _________________

The HD was ok but the Motherboard and Video card both are history. Just going to wait awhile and build a new machine. _________________

Be careful with the HDD cage and the length of the GPU. I'm always leery when it looks so short. But sometimes the cage is farther away than it seems or can be moved/removed.
I can vouch for the AMD 555. Mine unlocked to 4 cores with a budget version of an MSI board and was even able to hold 4 ghz with gentle boinc projects (probably couldn't hold the LLRs at PG though). I've since backed off to stock speed while keeping the cores unlocked and it hums along just fine when I can afford it. If unlocking/OCing you will need a cooler. I chose the Zalman Performa (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118059).

That is a horrible pimp-box!
I always go for black boxes, and even disconnect the power LEDs if they are too bright...

Looks like I chimed in late. If you were going amd I would go for a AM3+ board as it will still work with the current AM3 processors. _________________

This case has much better ventilation, bottom mounted power supply, room for the largest graphics cards and heat sinks and a mounting point for a 2.5 in. drive in case you get a SSD.

Consider a SATA III HD, costs about the same.
Which i5 are you looking at?

Looks like you went with the Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz afterall and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 220. 8 GB of RAM is awesome, should do nicely for whatever projects you want. _________________
