Sorry I didn't post this yesterday. I really had to have an early night because I was stressed. New job is proving to be quite demanding.

Top 5 Teams today:

1 The Knights Who Say Ni! 157 941
2 Team Musketeers 153 980
3 Rechenkraft.net 86 812
4 BOINC@AUSTRALIA 77 449
5 Get off my lawn! 33 144

Humm Surprised the Stinky Dogs have faded into the background after just one day of gaining more credit that us. Confused

Although we mowed their Grass a while ago Get off my lawn! seems to be trying to mount a come back. However, at 2.1 mill behind us they really are not able to pose any kind of threat Very Happy

Current Positions:

15 (16) Team Musketeers 2 992 644
16 (15) SETI.USA 2 906 042
17 The Knights Who Say Ni! 2 652 354
18 Czech National Team 2 467 652
19 Sicituradastra. 2 457 554

Probably going to be 2 days until we overtake SETI.USA then its on and upwards to tackle BOINC@MIXI in about 3 days time.

However, some great upward movement by everyone Very Happy

On FB we lost our single point on PrimeGrid so maybe we can gain this back if we take part in the summer challenge.

On another note we now have 6 points in RNAWorld and should be able to gain another 4 before the end of the month Very Happy Great work everyone.

We now have:
15 in the top 1000
9 in the top 500
5 in the top 250
2 in the top 100

What do you mean, locked up? Confused

You know xxl WU's can run for a long time after the progress indicator says 100%, right? I've had some run and finish ~50 hrs. after reaching 100%.

With some of the WUs this is completely normal behaviour and no indication at all for malfunction. So just keep them running. It has to do with the algorithm used in the app that has stochastic elements which make exact runtime predictions difficult if not impossible.

Michael.

Yeah, project went down, when I was checking forums on the checkpointing, given I've had more then a few task restarts. I'm actually wondering what the priority is on checkpointing, given I'm having to crunch on a laptop which needs to be somewhat mobile #ni-1

Leave the WU's in memory, suspended, then hibernate. They should resume where they left off.

The other alternative is to suspend the WU's you need to and restart them when you are able to continue. If you suspend you are able to switch your puter off and start from the last point you shrubbed to. You can also close BOINC down with all of your projects intact once WU's have been suspended with no danger of losing Shrubbing time.

If you need to manage a lot of WU's you can use BOINC Tasks. Download from here:

http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download.html

With this application you can both suspend all WU's in one go and restart them in one go.

Its pretty neat.

I can give that a try. Only thing hibernating is that the battery on this laptop holds enough juice for about 5 minutes of full runtime, before it's depleted and throws a hissy fit from a full charge. Yeah, it's somewhat old, and the battery is getting a "replace" alert from inside, well Windows 7 is now running on it.

If it was newer, and a full battery charge could provide hours, rather then minutes of juice well at full operation, I'd question less whether it could hold up to a hibernate, even though hibernate uses less power then a full boot. Still, it's worth keeping the battery in, because even if it can't be used on battery anymore, it could still prove enough power to quickly plug it in somewhere else, or deal with brief power interuptions such as brownouts, without interuption....

Overall ranking is now 16th and on RNAWorld we are now 6th with 8 points. Another 560k approx and we move up into 5th place with 10 points. So that should happen in the next 3-4 days depending on how many of us pull off to do the 24 hour Summer Solstice Challenge on PrimeGrid.

OK I'm having a weird time with these XXL units. The elapsed time goes up to 6 hours, then down to 30 minutes, back up to 4 hours, down to 20 minutes etc..... Is that normal, just ride it out 'til it's done?

Both shrubbers are finally in high gear. Took them a bit before they got interested in rnaworld, even with it way prioritized. I now have 14k+ pending credit and some rather large WUs being shrubbed! WOOHOO!

The larger WU's on RNA have always been up and down time wise. I've had a few that were supposed to take anything up to 3-4 days finish within 24 hrs and others that stared out at less than 24 hrs take 3-4 days.

Apparently its something to do with the BOINC client not being able to assess the length of time they will take properly. Need to ask Michael about it because I don't really understand it.

As for what you have described it fits in with my experience as well. Very Happy

Nice bit of pending there Yankton. If that's the RNA total add about 1 third more to it and that will be nearer what you will get Very Happy
