Gosh, I'm so needy! Wink

As an alternative to getting a second job (not easy around these parts), I'm doing a course (govt. initiative type thingy) that helps people start up their own 'micro-business'. Yep, just a teensy-weensy one that may have potential to expand. Only a limited number of people get accepted into the course and you don't get accepted if the course trainer doesn't think your business idea is any good.

I've just got a basic home page set up at the moment to get started but it does say what kind of site it will be.

Please note: this is for a market research question so I'm looking for feedback.

Confused

I should have added that this is what the business is going to be -

Wikipedia wrote:
A virtual assistant (typically abbreviated to VA, also called a virtual office assistant)[1] is an entrepreneur who provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients from a home office.[2][3] Because virtual assistants are independent contractors rather than employees, clients are not responsible for any employee-related taxes, insurance or benefits. Clients also avoid the logistical problem of providing extra office space, equipment or supplies.[4] With a full range of options to choose from, clients can customize their remote receptionist service to meet their exact needs. Calls can be screened, announced and seamlessly connected to clients or their employees anywhere [5]. They usually work for other small businesses, brokers and consultancy groups.[6] It is estimated that there are as few as 5,000-8,000 or as many as 25,000 virtual assistants worldwide; the profession is growing in centralized economies with "fly-in, fly-out" staffing practices.[7][8][9]

Common modes of communication and data delivery include the Internet, e-mail and phonecall conferences,[10] online work spaces, and fax machine. Professionals in this business work on a contractual basis and a long-lasting cooperation is standard. Typically 5 years of administrative experience in an office is expected at such positions as executive assistant, office manager/supervisor, secretary, legal assistant, paralegal, legal secretary, real estate assistant, information technology, et cetera.

In recent years Virtual Assistants have also worked their way into many mainstream businesses and with the advent of VOIP or other services such as skype it has been possible to have a Virtual Assistant who can answer your phone remotely without the end user's knowledge. This allows many businesses to add a personal touch in the form of a receptionist without the additional cost of hiring someone.

I'm hoping to get some work from other small businesses in our local area, and from charitable and community organisations on a limited budget (like where I'm working part-time) who can't afford to actually employ someone to do admin tasks that may only need a few hours here and there.

Need to show what type of market research has been undertaken to go in the marketing section on the business plan.

I actually know someone (well, Facebook know) who does this. Would you like me to put you in touch with them?

Interesting Michelle. As long as you have the infrastructure set up to handle the calls and other stuff, it might just work!

I won't be doing the phone answering stuff to start with. Maybe it could be an option down the track but not at this stage.

Still working on the business plan, fee structure and financial table stuff for the course, as well as getting the proper site designed, and working on invoice, business card, and quote design for the business.

Taxation requirements are a pain in the you-know-what. Our tax system is quite crazy here and not designed to help small business. Confused

I'm going to the art gallery in Maryborough tomorrow. A guy in the business class has an exhibition of his paintings on at the moment. I had at look at the slideshow on his laptop on Wednesday and he is really good but they weren't big enough so going to check out the real thing. We were sitting out the front having lunch and he said that he doesn't like it when people say his paintings are 'nice' because he feels like they think they're just average. lol

When I had a look at the slideshow after lunch I was saying "That's nice", "That one is nice", "That's really nice" etc. Laughing Then I remembered what he'd said, so I had to try and fix it by telling him that sometimes nice really does mean that they're great. I was really impressed by them so chose 'nice' as an alternative to "Holy cow. That's amazing!" in the middle of the classroom. He's quite nice too. Embarassed
