I was just reminded we decided to start the July vote early, mainly in case we choose a small project that needs advance warning. So here's the initial list

Quest for # 1 in Distributed Data Mining
ABC
Edges (non vault
Einstein
Folding / non-boinc
Majestic 12 / non-boinc
Malaria Control
Milky Way
Muon 1
Vacation - No PotM

Last month Al Dente mentioned the following candidates - have we done research to see if any are stable enough or of interest?

Constellation (~½ requested credit, validation delay can be quite long)

Mersanne (yet another primes project, ~ requested credit)

DNA@home (~ 2x requested credit)

Moo!Wrapper (GPU project, doing the same as DNETC, quite good credit)

Any other ideas? Seems like we enjoy exploring more obscure projects, but perhaps it is time to open the vote back up to projects that have already been PotM?

Moo!Wrapper added CPU, so it has both.

DNA@home is not releasing enough work to cover our needs at this time.

Has Chess ever been PoTM?

We had talked about Cosmology a while back, but the project seemed to be on auto pilot and more than one complaint was heard (and not answered) in their forums. Has anyone tried it lately? Are they back on track?

Still seems to be complaints on the message boards and no response from admin. Confused

OK so how's about this list:

Quest for # 1 in Distributed Data Mining
ABC
Constellation
Edges / non vault
Einstein
Folding / non-boinc
Majestic 12 / non-boinc
Malaria Control
Mersanne
Milky Way
Moo!Wrapper
Muon 1
Vacation - No PotM

Looking at Constellation, it appears they increased their low credit rate closer to the Boinc average recently. Admin appears to be very responsive on their message board. KWSN is in 81st place with 7407 points, is there any interest in this project?

Since Michael Weber of RNA World has been so helpful with June's PotM, maybe we could invite admins of projects we are favoring to join in the discussion. It would give them a chance to understand what we are doing and how much crunching power we will be bringing to the project we pick. We would have a better idea of the project's goals and could make a more informed decision. Constellation seems interesting to me and is on my shortlist right now.

Interesting that Chess is active again. I thought it died a long time ago.

*goes and adds it back*

We could do SETi Beta, they have plenty of work. It would surprise the SETI people.

You want to crash the SETI servers? I don't think Beta would be a good POTM....they tend to release new apps there first, and you really have to watch your computer and report back if you have any problems....just my $0.02.....

Cosmo would be fine with me...I do some from time to time and don't really have any problems with it.....

We are currently ranked 15th in Seti Beta behind some group calling themselves The Final Front Ear in 14th however they are only roughly 100,000 credits ahead of us which could be easily overtaken i'm thinking.

The Musky Hounds (I mean musketeers) are participating in constellation but they are way ahead of us.

We are ranked 82nd while the hounds are sitting in 11th so there is plenty of room to improve there. Which projects will continue to help us move up in FB as well?

Because this is a dead project, with no administration, no one giving a shit about it, it's just running because someone forgot to switch it off.

Saw this posted on the Cosmology board two days ago - this makes me nervous even though the mighty John Galt 007 is vouching for it... Wink

Well that's why we're trying to ID the PotM much earlier this month - to give fair warning to smaller projects...

Inviting project admins into our planning process could get messy, especially if we drop their project off the ballot. But still, to your point - deciding early gives us a chance to check things out more thoroughly - maybe we should try to determine the PotM a month in advance...

Some ideas.

LHC@Home could be interesting for two reasons:

1. They have not given out enough credits this year to qualify for FB. FB requires that a project dish out 2mill credits to qualify.

2. Currently we are lying 19th with 5,391 credits.

Total credits dished out so far this year:

- Project Status : Fully operationnal
- Season credits : 945,297

Project has not reached 2,000,000 credits quota for this season. Thus, FB-points are not granted yet.

We could probably push the project:
a) over the 2 mill credit requirement
b) move into 1st place for 25 points

IBERCIVIS

Serious, serious Stomp possibility with this one.

Current position:
93 The Knights Who Say Ni! - 45,665

Top Teams current points and credits:
1 CANAL@Boinc 25 6,511,801
2 L'Alliance Francophone 18 3,789,615
3 BOINC iberia 15 2,025,005
4 Islas Canarias-Canary Islands 12 1,938,706
5 GoalKeepers 10 1,716,439
6 Czech National Team 8 1,443,097
7 LOCPOS 6 1,411,366
8 SICUZ 4 1,387,728
9 SETI.USA 2 888,293
10 Agrupamento de Escolas de Vizela 1 814,137

We have chewed up almost 2mill credits on RNA World so far and 2 mill on this project would take us up to 3rd for a nice little 15 points and drop 3 off of BOINC iberia's total leaving them with 12 points total so far for the year. Just possible we could gain 2nd for 18 points and push L'Alliance Francophone down a tad.

MindModelig@home beta

- Project Status : Beta
- Season credits : 70,185

Project has not reached 2,000,000 credits quota for this season. Thus, FB-points are not granted yet.

1 Czech National Team - 8,939 282,273 273,334
2 SETI.USA - 3,759 1,188,667 1,184,908
3 Team Norway - 2,623 23,212 20,589
4 BOINC Synergy - 2,410 1,864,226 1,861,816
5 BOINCstats - 1,535 588,240 586,704
6 SETI.Germany - 1,347 851,353 850,006
7 L'Alliance Francophone - 1,124 424,055 422,930
8 The Knights Who Say Ni! - 1,038

We are currently in 8th place with a potential 4 points if they achieve the 2 mill credit goal.

Again we could push this project over the 2 mill limit and gain 1st place in the process.

Just a few ideas Very Happy

Or since it is the middle of summer. Take a vacation.

Another idea is something we used to do back in the Folding, Genome, and Distributed Folding days. Randomly join a small team and crunch for them and then come back to the Knights. Though in those days you could take your credit with you, so at times the Knights would have no credit and some minor team would shoot up all the way.

I guess we could just take a break and come back in August and see what needs shrubbing if we don't want to do anything this month. Rabbits other idea would be funny too lol #ni-1
