So I was laptop window shopping a bit and went scoping out the Sagers. Good stuff. They only have three models at the moment. One is a flat out pre-order - not available yet. One I don't want. And the last is backordered for at least a month UNLESS you order it with the nvidia quadra which adds $1200 to the pricetag by itself! Sheesh! Guess I'll scope out Asus again, maybe Sony. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

That sounds exspensive for the quadra part.
Think I'd look elsewhere as well _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

Yeah, I can't seem to piece together exactly what I want except for the sager which is backordered for at least a month. My other option is to just get an adequate laptop and see if I can squeeze a few years out of it before it's completely outdated. I'll have to research that tonight. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

It's almost perfect. I'm still debating though as it will run a bit over 2 grand. But should be future proof for half a decade. My last one just recently died, I ran it for eight years. It is tempting to get something down in the $600 range that meets all the minimum requirements I had. Trouble is everytime I go looking I still need to do a custom build which runs the price up closer to a grand. Even then, comps may be plateauing for a while so they can make them more efficient instead, so even a cheaper one should be future proof for a fair amount of time. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

If you can future proof for about 4 yrs its worth it otherwise you are spending for no reason.
Many machines that are good for 4 yrs will still be able to run what you want for up to 8-10 yrs so they are a good investment.
Bleeding edge stuff will rip your arms off if you are not able to afford to stay there. Personally I prefer to ride just behind the wave by about 6 months if possible.
Sadly I have not been able to ride behind the processor and memory wave for about 6 yrs so am in catch up mode.
The Phenom 1100T came out around Oct 2010 its now March 2011 so the next one is due. Price £184.00 or about $260.00. Price will fall over the next 12 months to around £90.00 or $130.00 by which time at least 2 new processors will have been issued. _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

Yup, I decided to go slightly behind again as well. Got a custom Toshiba satellite. Order placed. Waiting for the confirmation email so I'll know roughly how long it'll take them to build it. Been eyeballing this one for a bit. And a Sony as well. Decided I like this one more (and it had $300 in discounts to keep the price sane).
