In a little bit more than 24 hours (a.k.a tomorrow) there's a 24 hour PrimeGrid challenge called The Leonids Challenge.

Time: 17 November 18:00 UTC – 18 November 18:00 UTC

Application: Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR)

Builds: Available for Linux 32 bit, Windows 32 bit and MacIntel.

Quote:
ATTENTION: The primality program LLR is CPU intensive; so, it is vital to have a stable system with good cooling. It does not tolerate "even the slightest of errors." Please see this post for more details on how you can "stress test" your computer. WU's will take ~15 minutes on fast/newer computers and 25+ minutes on slower/older computers. If your computer is highly overclocked, please consider "stress testing" it. Sieving is an excellent alternative for computers that are not able to LLR. Smile

Full details: HERE!

I'll be participating, raise your hand (paw, hoof or what ever you can raise in case you have no hands) if you're participating so we could all share a PGGB! #ni-1

OK I'm in.... If I converted the UTC time right, this ends Thursday 11/18 at 1:00 p.m. EST U.S. ? Ah crap, looks like I started about 12 hours early - DRAT these European time zones, so Un-American... Wink

Quote:
At the Conclusion of the Challenge:

We kindly ask users "moving on" to ABORT their WU's instead of DETACHING, RESETTING, or PAUSING.

ABORTING WU's allows them to be recycled immediately; thus a much faster "clean up" to the end of an LLR Challenge. DETACHING, RESETTING, and PAUSING WU's causes them to remain in limbo until they EXPIRE. Therefore, we must wait until WU's expire to send them out to be completed.

Please consider either completing what's in the queue or ABORTING them. Thank you. Smile

That's right 1:00pm EST. Check with the countdown clock on Prime Grid's home page.

Can anyone tell me what went wrong with this WU? and why it aborted.

Is there an instability in my machine that I hadn't detected?

Did you remember to sacrifice a goat before starting the challenge? Wink

I had a number of computational errors with the PSP WU's but rarely with these short ones.
