Ni!
I have a NVS 3100M (256M, 213M available) currently violating one of the commandments (Thou shalt always scrub, ... or something like that) because it looks like most projects requires more VRAM.
But then again, most GPU sold in the add in market is the 8400s, 9400s with memory in this range, so there must be some projects that can run with this minimal requirements? If anyone knows of one kindly let me know! _________________

The way to tell is to see if BOINC Manager finds it as a shrubber when it starts up (look in messages), make sure you've got recent drivers.
I've got a couple of old ATI Radeon HD3450 (RV610, CAL version 1.4.467, 256MB, 48 GFLOPS peak) which run Collatz quite happily at a few thousand/day each, if that's of any help to you.
They were originally bought as the cheapest video cards (~£20) I could find for M/Bs without on-board graphics, so they've been a pretty cost-effective investment.

It appears my meager video card will not cut the cheese for starcraft 2. So I think I will be ordering a 5670 to replace it and move the old one to one of my other boxes, so my shrubs should increase faster.
Anyone have any luck with other low power consumption cards that won't break the bank? _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

You might checkout the low to midrange ati 4000 series cards. _________________

Suppose that depends on the size of your bank
I've heard good reviews of the 5670, so that is probably a good choice.
I got the 512 MB version of this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150448
(Couldn't find the 512 MB one on Newegg, and that's the only American site I know of... )
It's reasonably quiet although I can hear it over the CPU fan.
Power draw seems to be ~100W at Boinc load. |
