Congratulations to <a href="http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm" rel="nofollow">The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search</a> (GIMPS)! On April 12th, Odd Magnar Strindmo of Norway discovered the 47th known Mersenne prime, 2^42,643,801-1. It is the second largest known prime at 12,837,064 digits, only 141,125 digits smaller than the Mersenne prime found last August. The prime was independently verified June 12th.
