Recent news item (from 2 days ago) suggested there will be new work in 2 days. For those crunching it; now is the time to burn through some of one's current cache and be prepared to grab a nice chunk of LHC WUs |

They're turning the beast on today and starting out full tilt, so perhaps these new WU's will be "real" data to crunch, not just simulations? |

AFAIK, they'll still only be doing magnet control work, but once they get some real data on how the beam is behaving, they'll start fine-tuning it. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

And I've seldom seen the work go quit so fast even for this project. The amount of shrubs I was able to pull was kinda negligable, to the point of not even == half hour total (most completed in 4 secs), with like 1 or 2 10 min ones. |

That's what heppens when you get to 99.99999999999% the speed of light. Time just seems to stop. _________________ Listen; Strange women laying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government.

That's funny... Time seems to stop for me when I get into a Traffic Jam, And I am pretty sure that I am nowhere near the speed of light, _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

You are at the speed of light. The Traffic Light! Everyone knows they are huge distributors of gravity, the one thing that can slow down time. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

During traffic jams, I think many would feel like displacing a lil gravity, aka play bumper cars. Well if only they'd never have to deal with consequences |

Hi,
It's been pretty quiet here at LHC@home we've been working behind the scenes to streamline the server and keep the code as up to date as possible. There has also been some work on the update of the SixTrack application which we hope to roll out soon. The news with the LHC itself since the set back last year is quite good with it running at 3.5TeV this year. The experiments have also been busy with ATLAS and CMS and LHCb and ALICE working on refinements during the downtime.
Thanks,
Neasan

Copied the above from our DC News forum. Now might be a good time to re-connect your Boinc client with LHC. (Well, once the Prime Grid Challenge is done.) We need to bring this huge ailing beast back to life ASAP!
The system is restarting in November at 1/2 power, then will shut down again next year for further repairs to bring it up to full power.

Eight months later, I just snagged a work unit! I hope this one creates a black hole!

Yeah, at the time this thread was created the work units were imminent. But since then they've become about as rare as a cow that floats by it's own powers of flatulence
Now, and that said; just imagine if a cow's rectal power could be harnased for such purposes. The methane they discharge could certainly be burned for a propelant of sorts _________________

You're behind the times - Sir Fart's been doing that for years:

Actually, I have heard that they produce most of their methane in burps
