From the Pentathlon "How It Works" page...
Quote:
All teams must have signed up for the Pentathlon until 1st of May using this registration form - subsequent submissions won't be accepted.

The BOINC Pentathlon will start on 5th of May 2010 and will end on 19th of May 2010 – so it will run for two consecutive weeks.

Every discipline will run for 5 days and is going to be announced a week before it will start via Blog (Feed , Twitter , Facebook ) - therefore no team will know the entire sequence of the Pentathlon right from the beginning!

The different disciplines may be performed in a row or simultaneously.

The best I can figure is...

  1. We register before May 1 - CHECK
  2. During registration, we 'vote' on which projects we want to run - CHECK (see JG's post for the ones we voted for) Seti Germany will look at all the 'votes' and decide what project from each of the 5 disciplines will be run during the challenge.
  3. We wait...
  4. Do I have to even mention #4?
  5. One week before May 5 at least some of the projects will be announced - maybe. We might not know until even later. It looks like we will not know all the projects at once, as they want to keep it spicy!
  6. On May 5 we start shrubbing like mad for whatever projects are on the docket. We will only be doing one project for 5 days but may be doing more than one project at a time. I assume there will be a couple projects running at a time in order to squeeze everything in before the May 19th end date.
  7. On May 19th, challenge is done. We all go to the closing ceremonies for a big party!

If I got anything wrong, somebody please chime in. #ni-1

It would be hard to rig an election for multiple projects, but this could be a chance for the long-awaited "You're On Your Own Month - with a strong encouragement to participate in the challenge" month.

By the way, what ever happened to the idea of a long-term project? That would come in handy for situations like this or the current PG challenge month. Much of the month is tied up with a challenge, but the rest of the month could go to the long-term project.

SETI.Germany continues it's new invented challenge and invites all BOINC-Teams to participate in the 2nd BOINC-Pentathlon, following the ideals of the ancient Pentathlon.

It will start May the 5th 2011 (00:00 UTC) and will end May the 18th 2011 (23:59 UTC).

Like in the ancient Greece, the Pentathlon will be held in 5 disciplines. That means within 14 days the participants will have to crunch 5 different projects, all of them for a period of 5 days. That said, you can easily see that some projects will have to be crunched at the same time.

Each team that would like to participate has to sign up until April the 27th. Like in the last year the favourites in the different disciplines can be chosen by every team on their own. The project that gaines the most voices will be crunched.

A list of the projects that can be chosen from can be found here, but you can also suggest other projects. (But before suggesting other projects, please check if the project and/or their servers would be able to withstand the combined BOINC forces. We do not want to bring any project server down.)

More information can be found here.
Teams can sign up here.

In the last year it was very exciting until the end.
