Next one is starting on Feb. 14th. For a couple of days, 38 hours I believe. The WUs are short in duration so this will be a quick and fast fight for the top 10.

Here is more info http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1638

There is no advantage WRT 32bit vs 64bit OSes....this is purely dependant on speed, but an OC that is a bit unstable might cause some problems. My Q9450 can crank them out in under 350 seconds...

Gonna run thru a few of them this challenge, I am.....

Going off on a slight tnagent.....

we all like the PG challenges, they are a little bit of fun, and it's great to have a project that actually involves it's members.... BUT, what if there was no Primegrid?

Prime grid needs the money to run, it's completely volunteer run and funded, has no university or government giving money....

what about the knights donating... minimum is 2 euro, about $2

Plus we all get a little golden crown against our names in the stats list..... gotta be worth it for that alone!

I know one time many years ago the Knights chipped in to build a new shrubbery that a Knight built and hosted at their places of reidence. We called it the Spare Parts unit, you could either donate parts or money.

here's a simple way of getting the PC's running straight away , yet still making sure everything counts for the challenge

Strategies for starting the Challenge

Depending on a variety of factors, different strategies work for different users. Here are just a few to consider:

•large farm, user can be present at start
-Set Computer is connected to the Internet about every to 0 days
-Set Maintain enough work for an additional to 0 days
-Change PrimeGrid preferences and only select PPS LLR project
-At worse, you'll only be 1 WU late on each core starting the Challenge.
-After all machines have work, increase Maintain enough work for an additional

•large farm, user NOT able to be present at start
-Same settings as above.
-At worse, you'll only be 1 WU late on each core starting the Challenge.

•a few computers, user can be present at start
-Change PrimeGrid preferences and only select PPS LLR project
-Set computers to "No New Tasks" for PrimeGrid
-At Challenge Start, update computers to "Allow New Tasks"

•a few computers, user NOT able to be present at start
-Set Computer is connected to the Internet about every to 0 days
-Set Maintain enough work for an additional to 0 days
-Change PrimeGrid preferences and only select PPS LLR project
-At worse, you'll only be 1 WU late on each core starting the Challenge.

NOTE: This presumes you have all other BOINC projects suspended.

I'm just trying this out to see if it really works

It does work...that is how I manage my pharm for challenges like this...and then I use my BlackBerry to increase the cache after the start if I can't be close to a computer...

38 minutes into the competition and already a strong showing, 5th place.

3 GPU Force 2845.16
4 PBToyz 2844.04
5 The Knights Who Say Ni! 2030.11
6 PrimeSearchTeam 1895.95

Are nemisis from last year, Crunching Family, is right now in 12th place but they make strong showing at the end.

Also has anyone noticed the long to completetion time for the WUs?

Ni
