|
|
Quote: | NFS@Home is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do the lattice sieving step in the Number Field Sieve factorization of large integers. As a young school student, you gained your first experience at breaking an integer into prime factors, such as 15 = 3 * 5 or 35 = 5 * 7. NFS@Home is a continuation of that experience, only with integers that are hundreds of digits long.

I'd say this is good timing - NFS was added to the DC Vault list 12/12/09.
Initial stats:
18th Place
483,699 Points
8,380 RAC

Hopefully a Knight will find a very important number through this project.

I upped my quad to 6 gigs before tackling this. Of course I had to take two gigs out for blue screens but it seems to be running pretty well with the 4 until the RMA returns to me.
On a side note, I have a P-III running this and it does amazingly well. I was really surprised. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

And neither of you will be able to take my position from me, although Yankton did manage to do that earlier today. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Umm,... I may have a problem with this project...
It seems that just having 2-4 gigs is not enough...
my best machine (940 Deneb, 4gig 1066 ddr2, win xp pro 32 bit) will not run 4 of these at a time... 2 just sit there "waiting for memory".
I upped my page file to 10 Gig but Nuttin'......
S'up with that? _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Go into the project preferences and un-check the lasievee application under "run only the selected applications". This is the one that uses 500mb of memory per instance. It can push a multi-core over the edge.
Anyway, without that application, you can still do the 15xxxx WUs and you won't see the memory hit. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

ed & ee are checked and ef is unchecked.
It says that work is rarely available for ed...
cpu is running at 77-78% but the box is not laggy so I guess that my cpu's will get a break this month... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

I am going to buy a new HD tomorrow and put Win 7 on my main box.
That will make that machine 64 bit and should make it run better. It already has 4 Gig memory but 32 bit Xp Pro apparently can't use it.
This should be better.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
