Aqua@Home has been added to the DC Vault Projects list.
Quote: | D-Wave's AQUA (Adiabatic QUantum Algorithms) is a research project whose goal is to predict the performance of superconducting adiabatic quantum computers on a variety of hard problems arising in fields ranging from materials science to machine learning.
...07-July-2009 In order to better utilize CPU and GPU cycles, we've optimized our code considerably. Though all platforms and OS versions are affected, the 64-bit Windows application has specially gained in performance.

We can never have to many of the same threads, and I think Sir Yankton's is in the wrong area to begin with.

DC News isn't an appropriate area for news about a DC project?

No clue, half the time I am just making stuff up. According to the stats we need some production quick, every spot we lose will cost us over 21 DC Vault points, and might push us back a few spots overall, we are currently 3rd overall in DC Vault.

Is anybody getting any WUs for this? I've been trying to grab a few to keep them out of other teams hands, like Yankton suggested, but it seems like the flip-flop is happening. _________________

We need more cowbells and possibly more jobs from Aqua.

I notice on the Aqua message boards that work units take well over 200 hours? That's gonna annoy some kanigits who got bored with the 50 hour WU's in the last Prime Grid challenge... I also see complaints about credits on their boards. Not good after all that crunching time. Who is crunching Aqua right now, maybe we should hold off on this one for POTM? |

I wonder which WUs generate the broken credits then. They averaged 15x (or more) the credit rate of most projects.
Looking at Core i7 920 (can't tell how fast it's actually running), it looks pretty close to a 1 credit/second model. I don't see a CUDA device reported but maybe the AQUA app doesn't report them. Reporting 22 hours a WU. For you quick thinkers, yeah, that's about 80,000 seconds. At 1 credit/second.
The top 3 people are over a million RAC, with the top guy reporting 345 million RAC but only like 100,000 score haha. Either there's a lot of cheating or a lot of credit pulling going on or something. _________________

I used to curnch Aqua, it was good credit at the start, then they decided to up the WU size and decrease the credit. All very sharply. It killed my RAC and what I could do for the team, so I dropped it. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I crunched a couple of the Gpu Wu's for Aqua when they came out...
It slowed down my machine badly and when I complained they said "uncheck gpu when comp active in the manager" they said that that was a manager problem....
It does not do that in GpuGrid.....
also it used one whole core for the Manager, that was the reason for the unresponsive computer. I won't run that until it runs correctly. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

They do run multi-threaded apps, so you may only see 1 running but everything pegged. I'm sure THAT plays nice with the Manager lol. _________________

This article gives a little insight into what Aqua (& D-Wave) is doing.
So it seems that not only have I been a Google beta tester for the last n years, I'm also a Google developer. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Not sure what I was expecting, but "identifying objects that appear in digital photos and videos" falls WAY short of what quantum computers could be doing... |
