well it looks like NEZ, whos the No1 seti shrubber has been stealing his CPU cycles from his employer!... who's just sacked him.... and trying to get $1.6m from him in damages....

so if any of you are out there shrubbing on your work's equipment.....MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEIR PERMISSION, IN WRITING....

He was fired for more than running SETI. He stole a bunch of equipment, ran SETI AFTER he was told to stop and there was a bunch of other stuff.

He also ordered equipment based on his desires to shrub more, with no oversight, surfed pr0n and much more.
I run some BOINC at work, but very small scale, and only on machines that I have permission to, so to speak. I could probably do a million a day for a week before they noticed, but the legal fallout would be tremendous lol.
18,000 lab machines alone, including some multi million dollar big iron boxes, and at least 10-15k more desktops. But, like I said, the fallout would be awe inspiring. I don't want to go to federal pound you in the ass prison, so no thanks.

Is this the guy whose school says it will take a year and $1000000 to clean seti off their computers? It sounds like from the article that it's being used as a smokescreen for something else. I mean a year and a million to remove seti? Give me a break.

He may have done a lot more that was not mentioned in the article. So much more that it will take that year and $$1 mil to figure it all out and clean it up.
Sounds like he was not a nice guy.

I watched the press conference on the news. I gotta say that the woman looks like a complete Bit@#. I would guess that she and Nez had,... Shall we say " an Inability to see eye to eye " ...
I don't know Nez and I don't really care much, But her comments and demeanor lead me to believe that she not only is Stupid, but that she is out to get him....
How many IT guys get fired and their boss calls a news conference to trash them? Not to mention that her comments regarding the costs associated with running and uninstalling as well as the "damage" to computer equipment are Ill informed at best.........
I will bet 1,000 shrubs that she gets sued.....& Loses...
