I am trying to get the following URL image to appear in my sig:

http://stats.free-dc.org/mosttag.php?cpid=f7e8c5dfbccfce7e6054e7a84c151aa4&theme=4

However, it won't post as an image. Is this because it isn't a .gif or that HTML is turned off in sigs?

It's because it doesn't end in a file extension and the code doesn't know what to do with it.

What are you clicking to even get that as a separate display?

I don't understand the question....

And even if I append .png or .gif, it still won't display...

EDIT: This would be yours...

It's because it's made with php. You need a static image file.

I meant I can't find how to get that from their site. Being from PHP doesn't matter, it just has to be formatted so the tag knows what to do with it.

^ That image is this code for example:
Code:
[img]http://boinc.mundayweb.com/one/stats.php/userID:8185/.png[/img]

Doesn't look like the Free-DC one works that way. I can find zero mention on their forums about a work around either.

They would have to make one. The PHP part is the reason. You're thinking it needs a .jpg or a .png, but what it has is a .php - not at the end of the argument but at the end of the address. But you're right they don't have anything for getting around that.

I tried to use those images a couple of weeks ago, every time you go back to the page they have a slightly different background. I could not make it work either....

I think maybe that Free DC doesn't want the links and the resulting bandwidth problems so they made it "un-linkable" Idea

It needs a .PNG so the IMG code knows what to do with it. I know this first hand because you can hack phpbb to fix it, and I've done so before. The output is still a PNG image, it's just dynamic and not being dropped to a static file first. The URL ends in PHP but the output is PNG, the problem is that without .PNG at the end the code HERE doesn't know what to do with it and does not image flag it in the HTML it servers to the client.

The URL linked below to Mundayway is not to a static file. The \.png at the end is simply to fool the code into displaying it as an image (which it is, but it's a data stream not a static file). If you right-click that image, and go view the one generated by Free-DC you will find the exact same properties, and the exact same lack of a "real" file.

As for them not allowing linking that's total false, look at their own forums, they're linking all of these sig images fine. It's a limitation in phpbb, but caused by them doing it the wrong way, basically.

Well, maybe then the board software should be updated...hell, the annex is using a newer version of phpbb...

EDIT: Annex sig... where it works...

I had the same problem when I first found the display many moons ago and tried all the options to fool the board, to no avail, which is why I just linked it as My World Rankings in my sig.

I think Free-DC must be using a modern version of phbBB for their forum; isn't it about time to upgrade KWSN?

I think I asked that in a poll someplace...

I asked that in 2007, because we were out of date THEN. Rolling Eyes

PS: Free-DC is using vBulletin which isn't free. http://www.vbulletin.com/

It's a lot like SMF, in terms of what it can do beyond being just a forum, but SMF is free: http://www.simplemachines.org/

SMF (simple machines) is already being used by the lunatics over at lunatics.kwsn.net. They are, kinda, our sister-board.

From what I remember, we explicitly switched off the ability to use dynamic signature links from external sources due to security concerns.

I hacked the code for this board (and the annexe) to allow us to use our own PHP signatures (Folding@Home only) a few years ago, but haven't done anything since... Rolling Eyes
