Was it a "bargain" motherboard? As much as I hate the pay the premium that's one of the things I try to never skimp on. _________________

Oh well... |
PS- There are several places on the internet that can fix you up with the replacement caps for most motherboards if you are attached to it.

Hi Sir John,
Not much can happen now, since you replaced all so far. Last year I bought 3, rather had 3 built.
Good luck forward. _________________ Don't fuss about growing older, many are denied the chance. |

SHUT DOWN for the remainder of the month!!! It's only 1 day. You can afford the dip in shrubs. Come 00:00:00 October 1st, go like a bat out of hell! _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Well Gigabyte isn't exactly a brand I'd tend to go with; but this said, some boards just have issues and going with the renowned/more expensive brand won't always avoid it. I had one Asus board go bad, an early one which used the nForce 1 chipset in about 1-1.5 years.
When I went looking for a new board (the board it got replaced with had an nForce 2 chipset); I'd heard from more then a few local shops that all the systems they used that particular Asus board in had problems in the not too distant future, and it was a bad board. Course when they put it together, the board wasn't being manufactured anymore (short life span doesn't give a long time for testing before it's off market, a new board is in place). It happens... Prior to that; well that was the first Asus board I had problems with, and I'd used several before, so...
I used to know someone who could just eye up a board and without even testing it could predict if it'd prove good or bad, and about when it should go. I'm not there though, I still need some history, or to conduct tests on it. He was more like where my father was, where after about 50 years in a chemistry lab, my father could touch a piece of plastic, and tell something of it's properties... He had several patents for developing some polymers at where he worked.... How his senses got developed to, well Dunno... In the other person's case, he just knew enough about board geometry and what not, that in looking at the thing, he could eye ball faults in a lot of designs used out there. _________________

Call me superstitious, but that's a question you should never ask unless you're ready to find out. It's somewhat akin to "it can't get any worse, can it?" _________________
