Looks like if we can eek out juuuuust a 'Bit' more Shrubs, we can reclaim Number Nine in BOINC Overall
(and pass 1 BEELION while we're at it!) (We were SIXTH back in 2007!)
Whatever happened to days gone past? We lose somebody big?

Well, I took a quick peek at SETI, where we have our most Shrubbers
2,849 KWSN users, over 600 have posted at LEAST 100 Credits in the past month
There are over 300 producing at LEAST 100 Credits/Day (on SETI alone, mind you...)
And that's just one of our current 55 BOINC Projects (admittedly our best one... ), not including Non-BOINC or Retired Projects
While we may only have three or four dozen POSTING on the Fortress, there's a vast army out there that just "Keep 'Em Shrubbin!"
These users in the past few years have a vast number of Teams to join, and some seem to
have vast quantities of cash for new hardware, etc. (Like the GPUs, which Sir Smurfy said)
Seems our team is 50/50 - Half of us are able to keep up with the Joneses, and half of us just try to keep up with the rest!
(But there does seem to be a BIG drop a couple years ago, so did anybody look and see why?
Maybe we had malfeasance in something back then?) _________________

Let's look at this another way... SETI, our strongest project probably by an order of magnitude, has just 25% of our users active.
Here's what I mean:
SETI: 2,851 users (which was over 3,000 not that long ago?), 717 are active, RAC >0.
Einstein: 817 users, 180 active.
Rosetta: 633 users, 137 active.
Climate: 521 users, 516 active. <~ I don't think that's even possible.
If you then figured out how many of these users are dupes, orphaned, not active any more and just taking a long time to zero on RAC (last months POTM shows me over 6900/day still for example), and then further divide them down by how many are users on multiple projects, etc.
I admit, a lot of these are probably abandoned or forgotten. Just happily churning away until BOINC 4.x or somesuch finally dies. When you look at "new" projects, say... Cosmology. 99 members, 24 active. or PrimeGrid, 86 / 36 active. Or, even worse, something like uFluids with 77 and 12 active.
The POTM has yet to get more than 25 active participants or so, at least over the last 3 months I've been tracking/reporting stats on them. 3,000 users according to SETI. 34 according to Enigma. This team was built on top of SETI, and now that SETI isn't the belle of the ball it seems like 99% of the team stopped paying attention.
Sure, we're going to end up around 13th place as things stand now, a good part of that due to AQUA and MilkyWay, so I imagine those will be reigned in at some point. But even there it isn't that big of a deal. A million a day in MW is just 10 video cards away, we just don't have the active userbase to scrounge up those cards.
Look at MW for instance. We're doing just shy of 2.5 million/day already, which isn't far behind the 4 teams that are going to pass us. But of that 2.5 million 1.5 million of it comes from just 3 users. Sorted by RAC I'm in 7th place on the team with just a 34k/day average (about 40% of what I've peaked at when my client is cooperating). SETI says we have 700 active users, but we can't manage more than 7 (maybe people with an ATI video card?
I think the answer is we could, if they knew. Chances are good that a lot more of those 700 people are already crunching other projects, just not for this team any more. I suspect a goodly deal of those 700 "active users" are just forgotten machines and accounts, whose owners have long since moved on to other teams, projects, things, etc. Makes me wonder how long until most of those 700 have gone the way of the 2,100 who came before. _________________

Perhaps we should start a News letter and E-mail it to our fellow knights by default...
I mean we have all their addresses ( well the team founders do anyway )
This may be a good way to promote the POtM and increase awareness of the forum by team members that may not even know that this site exists.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Excellent idea!
Can someone with the authority here make this happen?

What if we had something like a portal website. Something along the lines of phpbb3 portal or something? Would that help draw people in?
Then we could post the potential newsletter, PoTM, stats, announcements, who we are as a team, all on a homepage and easy to find. While still maintaining the forum. _________________

It's a bit SETI specific, but could work. _________________

Same here. The date on the page is 2005, so it's been awhile since it was updated or they never change the date. _________________

Also seems to be missing a few projects from the stats. Some of our scores are a few million short. I know GPU Grid is missing among others.

I've noticed that, too. We'll either need to get the owners to update the site or come up with a new one. _________________

Our stats page is woefully inadequate. I actually have participated in 22 projects and our site only says 11.
Far be it for me to complain as I am not able to do the job at all, much less any better, but we really need to do better as we are listed as a stats site on the account page of almost all the projects. Even those that our site does not track. That was the way I found the team before I was a member.
We really need to at least keep up with the Jones's.....
I never use our site any more....
I prefer Boincstats, Stats & Stones, and Free DC. Sir Mike's page is excellent but it only covers Team Members
Boinc Synergy is also lacking as I am missing over 300k of Shrubs there as well...... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
