I need an answer from whomever is in charge of maintaining the site. A simple yes or no will do.
Is there any actual discussion/planning going on to upgrade the forum? The site in general?
I'll be amazed if I get an answer at all, but I thought I'd at least try.
I await a reply with baited breath. _________________

No, I meant baited. As in...
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/baited wrote: | v. bait·ed, bait·ing, baits
v.tr.
1. To place a lure in (a trap) or on (a fishing hook).
2. To entice, especially by trickery or strategy.
3. To set dogs upon (a chained animal, for example) for sport.
4. To attack or torment, especially with persistent insults, criticism, or ridicule.
5. To tease.
6. To feed (an animal), especially on a journey. |
And yes, I know it was in poor grammatical form, but who cares.
Thought I'd give it until Friday for this thread to officially be ignored and then I'll leave the team. <shrug> _________________

Now Now, Just because there is nobody in authority here is no reason to go off and leave....
There are advantages to having the "Parental Units" out,....

Sadly that's not what I'm looking for in a team. I'm tired of just sitting around watching the place fall down around my ears. I'm tired of trying, over and over, to help and being ignored or made fun for my efforts. _________________

I could ask tonight on IRC where the main people hang out.

Well it does appear Sir Jerwa has left the team. He is not listed as a member on QMC, the project of the month, and our daily production went down from 155K on Friday to 94K yesterday.
What were Jerwa's reasons for leaving? Three as far as I can tell: low participation in POTM, not much posting on these boards, and outdated BB software. Any other reasons?
It's a shame...

For what it's worth I'm carrying on with the project, at least until I hit 1m then I'll get distracted by the next shiney thing.
Kind've a shame really, seeing as I wrangled some special guests and all to enable such manly daily scores. Ah well, they'll all be going back to other things on Monday anyways.
As for why I left, it's basically the finer points you've mentioned but slightly out of focus. It's the general lack of involvement from the people maintaining the site, or the Facebook group, and the disregard of people volunteering to help, and that any effort you put in on your own tends to just get you ridiculed. I've nothing against the users, and am rather proud that so few have managed to keep the team in the top 10 for so long really. I just can't stand smashing into the same wall of indifference over and over again while watching the team slowly decay.
It's not a new thing, you can search the forum for my very similar rants in 2007 that led me to leave the forums for almost 2 years. Back then I even went to the effort of setting up a site specifically for demonstrating the changes I was hoping would be implemented here, demonstrating I wasn't full of crap when I said I could help actually do the work as well, and that users were at least somewhat interested. Especially given that none of the changes would be forced upon them, but were instead just broadening the options, and adding things like chat to the site rather than only being hosted in an IRC room that's not advertised at all, and you tend to not get a warm fuzzy welcome to in the first place.
So... yeah. I figured I'd rather be just another nameless face in the crowd for a team that's at least happy I'm a member, but at the same time that I can distance myself enough from to not care enough to try to improve it. _________________

First off, JerWA, a big thanks for rejoining the fb group. We all seem to have lost our sparkle over the last couple of years for whatever reasons, and the team is just not the same as it used to be.
It would be great if we could all work together to reclaim our former 'glory'. We need to get the team back up there. We need to scare the pants off the teams that are ahead of us.
This has been a great team to be involved with. We've all just got to put in the effort to make it great again.
JerWA, you're a great guy and you made some really good suggestions re the forum etc. If you decide to stay with the other team, we won't hold that against you (we'll just throw rotten eggs instead ), but we would love to have you back when (notice I said 'when' not 'if') you're ready to come back. _________________ My brain hurts.
