Here's the proposed list of projects to vote on for July. Prime Grid is off the list since we're crunching it now - POEM and SHA have been added back. * Prefix = previous POTM project.

I do these planning threads mainly so no one gets ticked off that a pet project is not being considered, so please advise if any should be deleted or added... There are a limited number of choices (I forget how many allowed in a poll), so we can't just list 'em all...

After two months of election shennanigans, we need a clean vote this time to improve our reputation. Razz

ABC
Climate
* Docking
Einstein
Genetic Life
Leiden Classical
Milky Way
NQueens
* POEM
Rectilinear
Rosetta
Seti
* SHA Collision
Spinhenge
Sudoku
Sztaki
uFluids
World Grid

SHA is currently on hold. No idea if or when it will return.

Climate Prediction may take too long per WU for this type of thing, but I'm game.

Sudoku has been offline for a while now too, and it also may not return.

Spinhenge has been down for a couple of days. Site is down too so no idea what the issue is.

I say we go for Genetic Life, in honor of Fang.

I say all projects be up for a vote, though Leiden Classical and Milkyway hold a special place in my heart.

Project reliability is another reason for these planning threads. If SHA, Spinhenge, and Sudoku are down or erratic, they should not be up for a vote. We need stable projects for POTM, AY?

If those projects come off, should we add anything new? Is Eon active? How about Wieferich (non-Boinc?), Sir Furry Mark is crunching that one big time. Looks like Superlink is out of work. Malaria Control seems to have regular work, there's another possibility...

I would really like to go with Genetic Life, too, but there's been a shortage of work over the past few days. See the project news for 6/17 here: http://genlife.is-a-geek.org/genlife/

@ Fang: Do you think you'll have the storage issues straightened out by July? Have you thought about setting up a donation box for Genlife?

I'd like to see Enigma added to the list. It always seems to have work.

If we go non-boinc, eon is a good choice. Muon as well. Can't forget OGR-NG or RC5-72 either.

Maybe add QMC to the list? We have a bit of a gap to the next team there, but once there it puts us in striking distance of a few others.

Enigma would also be a great choice.

Gimps and the PSP projects are options. PSP-PRP takes a few days for a WU on a newer machine. slower machines may not accomplish much in a month though. Gimps would be hit or miss too for length. Sieving can be done in smaller segments but is a bit more involved for getting a range and reporting.

We have room to move on Eulernet but I've never touched this project. Anyone? Bueller?

Weifrich sounds neat, Sir Furry can let us know if a month long push would be effective.

Although this may be contentious, yoyo should be considered as well.

Just a thought too, maybe we could vote for two projects for the month? That way if someone doesn't like one, they could do the other exclusively. Or if one runs out of work, the other should still be available. This could be useful too for a couple of projects that are windows only, giving those of us not running windows an option as well.

Yeah we can make a decent run in QMC and raise our profile in that project.

I have Seti.USA, the Perspective Killer Frogs and the Frenchies all on a raid this month - that's why I can't keep up with the work. July might not be the best time to consider me for POTM as I'm going to be doing some work on the project to reduce the physical size of the work units so it may be a little unstable for a time.

Enigma gets my vote.

FWIW Spinhenge is back up and this is the first time in a long time they've had any down time.

Climate prediction also had some down time this month when their servers ran out of disk space. Took them way longer to fix it than Spinhenge did. And, like mentioned, they still drop the occasional 2,000+ hour work unit so probably not the best "...of the month."

QMC hands out pretty hefty work units too. My Q9300 quad running at 3.26 GHz (up from 2.5 stock) has 3 queued right now, one 11 hrs, one 14, and one 22 hours. Good points though as my quad was pulling 2k points/day before I fired a bunch of other stuff back up.

Why is yoyo contentious? They just went on my projects list yesterday as it's one of the few that fully support BOINC on PS3. Even GPUGrid, the home of PS3Grid, puked their PS3 setup for a week so now mine is running GPUGRID and Yoyo hehe.

I would say SETI, MW, or ABC, as I will have most of my farm shut down due to the heat that has come to Wisconsin. The only machines that will be on (including the new one with 3x PCIe slots) will be running mostly 64 bit OSes, so ABC would be my choice...

Deleting SHA, Sudoku, and (at Grawlfang's request) GenLife.
Adding Enigma and QMC.
Here's the revised list, 17 choices...

ABC
Climate
Docking
Einstein
Enigma
Leiden Classical
Milky Way
NQueens
POEM
QMC
Rectilinear
Rosetta
Seti
Spinhenge
Sztaki
uFluids
World Grid

I admit I'm nervous about including non-Boinc projects like Eon and Wieferich. Yoyo is controversial mainly due to confusion - it has a non-Boinc client and also a Boinc client that actually counts towards Team Rechencraft??? I'll add those projects if there's genuine interest...

I don't especially like the idea of first & second choice projects - I suspect a lot of people would just crunch both, diluting the results. But it's your call, we'll do what the team wants...

Should I include the Stomp Factor and Formula Boinc ratings?

I like the stomp factor info included. Didn't someone clear up the issue about Yoyo a couple of months ago? I recall someone reporting that Rottencraft does not get credit.

Maybe the YOYO thing is one specific project? I'm running the BOINC PS3 client for it, and ran 1 WU on my normal PC for it to get the IDs to synch up, and our team page on their site shows all of that credit (guess I'll see what the external sites say later today). I dunno, I'm new to them.

I'm a fan of WCG myself, and most of my power is spent there now. It's also one of our projects where we're not putting much of a showing. All of our top days are from 08/2008. Ranked 99th, slowly loosing ground, and RAC (which is actually at a noticeable upswing right now) puts us somewhere in the 110s.

http://boincstats.com/stats/team_graph.php?pr=wcg&id=988

Our overtakes are up 3 and down 15. http://boincstats.com/stats/overtake_stats.php?pr=wcg&object=team&id=988

So I guess WCG gets my vote.

Yoyo has default teams on their subprojects to account for the WUs completed, but Rottenkraft doesn't get the credit in those subprojects for work done in yoyo, so it is an acceptable project.

WCG we could do, but with little net effect. There are so many teams on it that our score wouldn't move much if at all (I'm going mostly off the vault scores when I ramble on these threads).

I like those stomp factors too if you have time to do them again.

Our worst vault position is in bio so with genlife out I'd have to go for Poem or Docking again most likely as they would provide the most upward movement potential.
