No more Whining about your Soccer teams, Brits
Last season they were 3-13. So that's 3 wins in 2 seasons
The Lions have finally Won at Losing. Hey a win is a win _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Maybe it's something about being too close to Lake Erie. My Browns (Clowns) finished the season without scoring an offensive touchdown in 24 quarters (new NFL record), and the streak is intact- we can try and extend it next season. Talk about something to look forward to! _________________

At least you guys didn't get your hopes dashed in the last few weeks. My Jets have been giving me false hope for years. 39 years of frustration.
The Lions haven't been the same since Sanders retired. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I beg to differ.....
The Lions haven't been the same since William Clay Ford bought them
Quote: |
Ford became the sole owner of the Detroit Lions in 1964, purchasing the franchise for $4.5 million from Dick Richards. He is often blamed for the Lions' abysmal record under his ownership. The Lions were one of the most successful teams of the 1950s, winning championships in 1952, 1953 and 1957. However, the Lions have won only one playoff game since Ford became the sole owner of the team, and have never reached the Super Bowl. |

Hey - the Broncos managed to blow a 3 game lead with 3 weeks to go! Head Coach (and GM) Shanahan got fired for his trouble. _________________

Err, what does soccer have to do with football?
This is a disturbing post since I don't know the teams involved, but Bronco's don't seem soccer orientated to me. _________________ SAVE THE WHALES. Collect the whole set.

Denver Broncos NFL egg chucking League
Ausie rules is better to watch and does use the feet much more often but still fails the foot to ball rule. But I just love some of those challenges.
Football is played mostly with the feet and uses a round ball. It is a misconception by our western cousins over the pond, some continentals and people from the southern hemisphere that causes confusion. But those minority sports are so tiny globally it hardly matters.
In the UK we also have Rugby football?????, we do not complain due to the fact most of the people involved are brain damaged.
HAPPY NEW YEAR you poor misguided loonies _________________ Crabbypatty

I do seem to recall them playing quite well in the late 80's and early 90's. If I remember correctly they went to the NFC title game one year (too lazy to look it up right now) _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

In 1997 we had the #1 running back ( Barry Sanders 2053 yds) and the #1 Pass Receiver ( Herman Moore, tied for #1 with Rice at 1293 yds) and we still lost to Tampa Bay 20-10 in the first round of the playoffs. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

In '91 they went 12-4 & made it to the NCF title game. Since then it's been all downhill. At least they can't get any worse.... _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Yeah, and you folks play Cricket, too. Talk about "minority sports"
As for being "tiny globally" - by what measure? My guess is that many NFL teams are worth more than the GDP of some of these tiny countries where soccer is so popular. _________________

There is wealthy and there is famous. Fame comes with popularity and Football is popular world wide and that popularity shows no signs of waning, if anything football is still growing.
Like cricket every country is allowed one or two quirky national oddities(I love cricket but our cricket team is a mistake).
And don't get me started on the "World series" _________________ Crabbypatty

Ah, Cricket.
Now there's a game (note, NOT sport) fit for Gentlemen of my calibre.
Nothing could be finer than a pleasant sunny Sunday spent watching chaps playing the Noble Game, followed by a spot of lunch washed down with a glass or three of nice wine, then dozing through the afternoon's play (that is, of course, until a rather hard leather projectile arrives in one's nether regions, which is guaranteed to arouse one from one's somnambulent state a bit abrupty; but at least it was a six!).
I must admit that the England "team" causes a bit of embarrasment now and again; O.K., most of the time.
But, then again, how many American "Football!!" teams play for 40 hours over 5 days?

Ah, but here in the states there are alot of kids playing it.
The joke goes that the reason so many kids play Soccer is so they don't have to Watch it _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Here in NYC there are soccer leagues for the kids at some of the parks, some high schools have a team, and pick up games played by people that don't speak English. Beyond that, not much else about it.
They tried a Pro level soccer league here in the US. Not doing so well. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!
