I should have realized this earlier but Enigma does have optimized apps.
Check out http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=109#902 for the files and directions.
I have some running now and it seems to have cut my shrubbing time from about 30 minutes to about 20 minutes. Well worth it.
I also looked but did not find optimized apps for SHA or Docking.
I did find some for Sztaki but they are outdated and superseded.
We should make a little database of good optimized apps for people to scope out.

Ooops! I forgot about that. Now I remember why I switched from running Enigma on an i7 to a C2Q. There's no optimized app for the i7. _________________

Try the Core app from the bundle (64-bit). It should work just spiffy on an I7. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I tried it once a couple of weeks ago and all the WU's failed and I haven't tried it again. _________________

If you're feeling brave you can talk to Mike who made those apps and he can walk you through compiling a version specifically for an I7.
Also, the instructions on that thread are a bit lacking, did copy the other files over from the other thread and then rename the distributable from the first thread? _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I might try talking to Mike and I don't remember specifically what I did, but it could be that it was something I did wrong rather than the app. I'll try it again when I get back home. _________________

At the top of this thread http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=17 you want one of the app_test_522 files, the one for linix. make sure boinc is stopped. Decompress it and move the files into the enigma project directory.
Then from this thread http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=109 download the link Mike D's Linux files. Decompress it. if you decompress it into the enigma project folder that will work. Then you have to change an executable. Rename enigma_0.76_i686-pc-linux-gnu to something else, or delete it. Then rename enigma_0.76_i686-pc-linux-gnu_Intel-Core_64 to enigma_0.76-i686-pc-linux-gnu
Then restart boinc and you should be good. The two threads leave out a few steps for setting this up which is why I think there was an issue when you did it last time. I've seen the short WUs go from 30 minutes to 20 minutes and the longer ones I've seen almost cut in half. Took me to around 27 shrubs per hour per core if memory serves (I'm old after all)
While installing, don't forget the seti or the milkyway optimized apps! _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Thanks Yankton. I've got the SETI and MW apps installed. The i7 can do as much as 16k per day on MW using CPU's and the optimized app. It runs a little hotter, but not, too bad. _________________
