I just posted on another thread, and noticed that my signature indicated that I've finally hit one million! "New black" my eye - that's still saying something, especially since the newest/fastest/most productive shrubber in my farm is a dual core Opteron 170 that I can overclock to 2.2 gHz when the ambient temp in my office isn't too high (and I have to throttle if the ambient temp exceeds 30C).

And I don't have a GPU I can shrub with.

I've been ranked as high as about 5100 for RAC according to BOINC Statistics for the World, and I don't know how far I've slipped since switching everything over to Poem for this month (which doesn't pay anything like MilkyWay), and then having a power outage and some technical problems yesterday to boot.

BOINCstats says I'm ranked 138th on our team BOINC All Project Stats says I'm 16th on the team by TC for the POTM, and I've shown up a couple of times in the top 10 RAC for the team.

The same site says I'm:
10th in TC on the team for MilkyWay (albeit only about 83rd percentile)
54th in TC on the team for Einstein, which is over 93rd percentile
1024th (nice binary number) in Leiden, which is still 92nd percentile
1835th in Sphinhenge, which is 96th percentile

Per Stats n' Stones, by join date:
Poem: 1st for TC and RAC (though only 10 joined the same day)
Milkyway: 2nd for TC and RAC (out of 26)
Einstein: 3rd on TC and 15th on RAC (out of 101)
SETI: 6th for TC, 9th for RAC (out of 134)
Rosetta: 16th for TC, 20th for RAC (out of 238)
Leiden: 2nd for TC, 1st for RAC (out of 12)

Congratulations!

I think 1 million is still the major milestone. Anything after that is gravy.

As P4's phase out and GPU applications grow, I would think the new milestone might actually jump 10 million and go straight to 100 million.

Thanks. And I think you're right - it is very cool to finally have 7 figures TC in my sig. Unless I get much better hardware, it will be a while until see 8 figures.

And it has suited the other purposes I have for my shrubbers to go with more of them instead of sinking all my money into one very fast one (sort of a RAIS array).

This isn't sour grapes - clearly it's just a lot harder to do without modern hardware, especially GPUs. I like the approach that Milkyway is developing, which is to have separate projects (but fundamentally the same data) for CPUs and GPUs. The difference will be that the GPU WUs will be 100 times bigger, with porportionate credit. That will also mean that, at some point, one will be able to tell how the credits were earned for that project.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people tearing it up, with multiple GPUs (especially if they're on our team!). Shrubbing shrubs is the object after all, and GPUs are best at that for the projects that support them.

And I fully intend to acquire some myself, once I regain the financial means to do so (I'm currently unemployed). The good news is, with the advent of the 200 series, the 8XXX series have gotten a lot cheaper in the aftermarket. nVidia has a really neat feature on their site that reads what kind of card you have, estimates the result of some sort of synthetic benchmark, then tells you how another given card would score. Of course, most anything would anniliate my poor FX6600, and it's interesting to see how much more powerful an 8800 is than an 8600. I think I read somewhere that a 260 isn't that different than the top end of the 8XXX series, and, according to the site the 280 sure has a lot more suds.

The thing is, last I knew, Milkyway only supports ATI GPUs, so I might just buy and ATI vid card for the first time. That would have the advantage of giving me the ability to keep my RAC up while I support other projects for the POTM.

Likewise, I intend to build my son a much better gaming machine as well. He's currently running a socket 740 3200+ Venice with something like an FX5700 vid card. This is adequate for what he does (including the remarkably efficient - both in terms of bandwidth and CPU/GPU requirements - Guild Wars), and he said he would get more PC games (with less emphasis on console games) if he had a PC that was up to it.

Of course, there is something of an uterior motive in that I could then just add his old shrubber to my farm, and get the benefit of the increased shrubbing power of his new box.

I had intended to build him a C2Q or possibly even an i7, with a decent graphic card for his birthday late last month, and then I was laid off in early February.

Now for something completely different: as I suspected, "NI!" is currently winning handily in the survey, well ahead of the first two questions combined, with "What was the old black?" a relatively close second.

All of which goes to show what a silly lot we knights are! #ni-2
