There's been some question about the legal uses of this project.

I did not have the Team ID for this project. I have now found it, so the team should make it's appearance in my Stats Page tomorrow morning. _________________

"The goal of FreeRainbowTables.com is to prove the insecurity of using simple hash routines to protect valuable passwords, and force developers to use more secure methods."
OK I can see how this might be a good service, proving that password security must be improved might lead to reduced identity theft, etc. But it seems a little phishy, what exactly are they cracking? End user email accounts? Breaking into web sites? Why is the word "valuable" in the sentence up top?
"By distributing the generation of rainbow chains, we can generate HUGE rainbow tables that are able to crack longer passwords than ever seen before."
Are they just making it more difficult for end users, now we need to use a bleeping 16 digit bloody password to be safe?
Also, I notice they aren't attempting to crack our favorite, the SHA-1 hash function - is there any significance to that?

Could someone check out stats.kwsn.net?
It seems to be very broken at the moment. It hasn't updated in quite a while. It still has me at 1.3M
http://stats.kwsn.net/user.php?proj=all&cpid=cf4ae6c09c99f3ec6a2b3f31add2458e
I think since this is the link that god and everybody sees when they load any of their account pages it would be a good thing if it was updating properly.
As it is now everybody will think we're loonie and lazy rather than just loo e. _________________

Well the Knight who runs that stats page does not include every BOINC project. Instead it is just the major BOINC projects or the ones I bugged him to include.

Why would they retreat. He has most of the projects listed, only some of the small projects are not included.
