I lot of boards ban free emails. Hotmail, yahoo, gmail and the like. That may be it if you are using one. If not you should email their admin.

Or maybe they finally followed through on their threat to ban us all. I wish I could post there but I cannot remember log in information and I cannot read Dutch either.

Ha! My first computer (OK, maybe it was my Dad's computer) was a Teletype with a rubber-coupler modem (you actually put the phone-receiver into it) which dialed into Rutgers University (Maybe an IBM 360/67?). Of course, I was all of 5 at the time, and mostly just liked the noise it made. Wink

I still have a couple of TI Silent Writer 700s here. They were the "portable" model units. I even have some of the thermal paper.

PDF sales brochure of TI Silent 700 - "25pounds...$2595"

And the Internet! Don't even get me STARTED about the Internet! I was running an ISDN BBS (The Voice of PHRED!!) at 115k in the early 90s

You started late even...

My first dial-up was 110 baud to a PDP-11/43 in the mid 1970's. I was BBS'ing in 1977, started running BBSes in 1979, opened a multi-user BBS in 1987 and ran it for 10 years (became an ISP).

I had pretty well every speed of modem, along with IDSN, DSL, Cable, etc. I've talked to the likes of Ward Christensen, John McAfee and was friends with Phil Katz.

Those were the days.

But have you ever hex edited Norton Commander 3.0 to show your own name instead of Norton's one?
This used to be 'our' fun with the software we had on 5 1/4" (real) floppy disks that went into our Apple ][ clone my father built in 1981.
(10 year old kids like us thought this was hacking)

Oh, the pleasure of turning on a pc and it comes up with a prompt in 5 seconds, ready for BASIC programming.

Lots of running debug in the old days to hex edit all kinds of things. Formatting MFM and RLL drives utilizing debug to get into the controller to start the program. I have programmed BASIC, COBOL, FORTRAN, RPG II, C, C++, HTML PL/2, and some others. I no longer program, but I can read and sometimes debug software (I used to debug COBOL in the early 80's and C++ in the late 80's early 90's.

Intel Q6600, Windows XP Pro x64 = 120 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, Windows XP Pro = 90 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, Mac OSX = 75 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, Windows 2000 = 60 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, ReactOS = 40 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, Centos Linux 5.2, Command Prompt = 35 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, Centos Linux 5.2, KDE = 50 Seconds
AMD 6000X2, DOS 6.22 = 10 Seconds

Hey I already gave the newbies an assignment. Yet it seems it is up to us old folks to actually go and taunt another team.

I can never seem to log in since every time I try it does not let me. Silly Dutch language, being completely unreadable.

Ok.... Well, I don't know if I am considered an oldie. But I probably should be considered part of the second generation like most of us are. Now, we are in the thrid and fourth generation od newbies buy cialis now.

Many of you don't know, but I joined January 8, 2010. I stalked the forum until May.

Check out some people's registration date, then tell me what I am. Smile
