To our European Knights I have a question. I was thinking of buying a EuroRail pass for next summer and then spending a couple of months trying to go to all 20 countires that you can go through with the pass. And riding the rails around Europe. I was just curious if our European Knights think this is a good value, what do they know of riding the railroad in Europe and any tips or suggestions.

This topic can be moved to the main part of the forum if the mods/admins feel it is neccessary.

Hey Wabbit !! Good idea , but be aware that some train joyrneys are travel time limited - ie NOT during the rush hour or sometimes not at weekends/workdays etc .
But generally a very good purchase if you intend to use it a lot whilst abroad .
In the UK you can combine it with a bus pass as well , for the places that trains don't goto , this is the BEST way here .
I get my free bus /train pass in 2010 Cool Whoo-Hoo !!

Ni!

I would second and two thirds that. I did a 30 day pass once, it worked great. I would only add that in Italy and Spain time schedules are more of a suggestion. You can find yourself stuck at a stop by missed connections, allow plenty of time.
Also make sure to have cash before hand, they rarely take credit and usually have no atms.
I nearly starved from Monoco to Gibralter.

I did the 30-day Eurorail thing {gasp} 22 years ago and it was great. I don't know how much that may have changed since (check out Let's Go Europe).

There is also a risk to a Eurorail pass: Because it gives you unlimited travel, there is the temptation to actually try to go everywhere, and you can end up wasting way too much of your time on a train instead of actually doing something. I had a great time, but it would have been even better to do more in fewer places.

PS: When you open your beer on the train, try not to spray the nice gentleman sitting across from you. Embarassed
