I have two nearly identical quads running milky way. One crunches them just fine. The other gives immediate computation errors:
<core_client_version>6.2.16</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
process got signal 11
</message>
<stderr_txt>
Unrecognized XML in parse_init_data_file: computation_deadline
Skipping: 1225491844.000000

Unrecognized XML in GLOBAL_PREFS::parse_override: max_ncpus_pct
Skipping: 100.000000
Skipping: /max_ncpus_pct
</stderr_txt>
]]>
The forum for milky way was no help. The only real difference between the two comps is one is running the testing branch of gentoo, the other is running the main branch. Nothing in the error message suggests a library problem though. I could run the one out of work and recompile boinc from scratch, but I was hoping someone had seen this before.

Have you tried resetting the project; that will clear everything to do with MilkyWay and download the whole lot from scratch. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

1) Is one running 32 bit and the other 64 bit?
2) Signal 11 usually is a disk problem. I would run several passes of memtest86 to make sure the ram is happy first. If it was, I would then try swapping around some HDD's.
3) The fact that you see XML errors may have something to do with it, does one system have a newer (or older) version of the xml handling libs?
4) If you happen to be over-clocking, I would back off on it.
5) Different CPU? _________________

Let's see. I did reset and detach and then re-attach. no good.
Both machines are running 64-bit and they are both new. I'm doubtful of a hard drive error as it's an immediate problem that makes it exit and it's only on milky way, none of the other projects have issues with this. Same CPU, no overclocking. The one failing is on the software testing branch with somewhat aggresive cpu optimizations. If I settle on it being that I will run it out of work and try an OS reload. Maybe Novell. Poking around shows they both have libxml2-2.7.2.
I'll try an OS reload in the next day or two when it runs out of work. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Well,
maybe tonight if it's ready, tomorrow they're showing Spaceballs at the theatre. It shall be glorious!

He IS amazing. The college was looking for ideas on movies to convert to plays for their acting dept. I suggested (multiple times) Blazing Saddles. Something about political correctness or something, all I heard was "no, blah blah blah" _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Do Young Frankenstein. That is an easy one to do, requires few cast members, and is a blast! _________________

That would rock! I'd actully want to act for once then. I'd have to be the inspector.
And I've always wanted the sound of the horses that come up everytime someone says Frau Blucher for my doorbell. That and a camera outside my door to record reactions!

Do what ever play they want and volunteer to play a part. Then when you have a line, replace it with a random line from Blazing Saddles! _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I was going to post a reply/quote, but I couldn't find any that wouldn't get me in trouble with our admins... _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!
