After thinking about it for a long time, I am making some slow progress towards starting my own blog. I had thought to title it Standard Deviations, but with a bit of searching I find several other blogs with that name or one very similar. Therefore, I thought it might be time to ask a little help from my friends. What should I name my blog?

This blog is to contain posts similar to what I often post here (humor), and some more serious statistical discussion. If you didn't know already, I work as a (Bio)statistician mostly in/on/around medical research. I'd like to keep it serious enough that I can eventually use it as a collection of professional writing. I'll keep Sir Hamster here - Though Sir Hamster's Hessian Hat Hook would be a really cool name too. Wink

Here are a few to get started:

Standard Deviations (ignore all those others and use it anyway)
The Number Mill (sort of like a Lumber Mill, a place where numbers get get into bits)
The Stat Cave (sort of a Batman theme, with numbers)
Maximum Likelihood (another much used name)
Normal Curves Ahead (just thought of that one)

suggested key words: random, chance, -stats

All suggestions welcome, even the silly ones. Go wild. Smile

Dan

Eureka! (a Greek work meaning "This bath water is too hot!")

First of all, thank you for the contributions. They had the effect I was hoping for: to prod my thinking into new lines where I could find something original that I really like. I did a bit of searching based on some of the suggestions above (keyword lies, statistics) and came across an old friend:

The Dread Tomato Addiction, by Mark Clifton (1958)

Stand by for more, I'd better do the work thing for a while first.

SHOE's (Infinite) Improbability Drive

“The Infinite Improbability Drive is a wonderful new method of crossing interstellar distances in a few seconds; without all that tedious mucking about in hyperspace. As the Improbability Drive reaches infinite improbability, it passes through every conceivable point in every conceivable universe almost simultaneously. In other words, you're never sure where you'll end up or even what species you'll be when you get there. It's therefore important to dress accordingly. The Infinite Improbability Drive was invented following research into finite improbability which was often used to break the ice at parties by making all the molecules in the hostess' undergarments leap one foot simultaneously to the left in accordance with the theory of indeterminacy. Many respectable physicists said they weren't going to stand for that sort of thing, partly because it was a debasement of science, but mostly because they didn't get invited to those sort of parties.”
