L.A. is such a mess (parts of it anyway) that it was probably not noticed. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

It might not be the greatest place in some areas but still it would be pretty scary if your house started shaking.
I just heard back from my friend Sue, in Yorba Linda. She had heaps of breakages but no apparent structural damage and no injuries. Thank goodness. Such a lovely lady.
My aunt and uncle leave on Friday to go to the U.S. to visit my aunt in Nevada. They'll be nervous wrecks by the time they get there after all the problems with QANTAS 747s in the news, and now the earthquake. lol _________________ My brain hurts.

But what would they do with it? Would it fit in their back-yard?

Good question. Let us look at it logically.
1) They have a boat (or aquire one in a timely fashion).
2) Global Warming exists.
3) Austrailia is on the bottom half of the world.
4) Water runs down hill.
Thus we can see that if the Aunt and Uncle in question go sit in the boat right now and wait long enough the global warming will melt the North Pole and flood Austrailia. Thus the Aunt and Uncle will eventually be floated off the ground and will then be able to row their way to the friends in California.
Unless "The Big One" has already struck and California breaks off the continent and sinks into the Pacific Ocean. Should that happen it will raise the water level of the ocean significantly and cause the water to rush down to Austrailia faster. Meaning that the Aunt and Uncle will not have to wait as long before the boat floats and then they can participate in the rescue mission of all the California people (including their friend). _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

But the North Pole floats. Therefore, It will not increase the ocean levels when it melts. (which it mostly has already).
Additionally, Water is at it's most dense at 34 F. So it should actually reduce the volume in the oceans for a little while

The earthquake was not that big (in California terms), nothing more than stuff falling off the shelves and shaking. No major structural problems.

See they are used to it. No harm, no foul.
Are the Aunt and Uncle waiting in the boat yet? _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!
