Sometimes I be a bit dense ( OK I admit it most or all of the time I'm a lot dense.) Just got home a bit ago and checked my 'shrubbers, they were all sitting IDLE! I have three little shrub planters that were doing NUTIN!
I also had six completed work units ready to send to Seti@home, two on each system. And I wondered what's up with that? DUH! Seti@ home does maint on Tuesdays. and Seti@home seems to overestimate the time required to complete a work unit, at least on these systems. Like by 2x on the linux box.

So rather than let these guys sit and collect dust any suggestions? I will not plant shrubs for a for profit project like "Artificial Intelligence". Also several of the projects appear to really need systems with a bit, or a lot, more power than what I've got.

I would like a science or humanitarian project that has a fairly steady work flow, just can't make up my mind(S)! Where does the team need help? even with my itty bitty shrubbers each one counts a bit.

Edit: 2 of my systems have picked up more work now and are planting shrubs again, but this one, which of course is the best shrubber of the three, is still without wiork. Crying or Very sad

Rosetta

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/

Steady work and you can choose how large the work units sent to you are. Disease research with active community and regular updates from the project owner. Credit is ok and I have yet, in over 1.3 years, to run out of work...they seem to have an endless supply of it.

I have ran Rosetta on a P4 2.4 Ghz with 1 gig of ram, all the way up to a Quad core and have never had problems on any system. They are always updating their software to make it smaller, faster, and require less and less memory/cpu.

Really, any will do, but you should choose something which is fairly reliable and has short-ish work units.

May I suggest Malaria Control, Rosetta or POEM (all medical-related projects) - not as many points/hour as SETI, but worthwhile all the same.

If you set your 2nd choice at a share of, say 50 and your main project high, say 1000, then when SETI has work you'll put 95% of your shrubbing effort into SETI, but if and when you run out of work, the #2 project will fill the gap.

An alternative approach is to set your "Connect to Server" time to, say ½ day plus an additional, say, 1½ days work - this will give you a 2-day work cache to meet those unfortunate times when you can't get any work.

Best of luck, and Happy Shrubbing

Thanks to all for your suggestions! #ni-2

I have chosen and set up Rosetta@home, it's now planting a few shrubs. Well it's starting to anyway. I'll see how it goes.

Making up my mutual minds Embarassed when there's so many good choices out there is tough.

I can say the screen graphics are um different. Looks like Alien vs. Preditor vs. ET all being eaten by the Blob drawn by Picaso!

Do we really have stuff that looks like that inside? - no wonder we're loonie!

Thanks again and #ni-1
