I care!
I've got over 40 CPUs on Folding at the moment - unfortunately most of them are pretty old...
Not sure whats happening with the rest of the Folding team though.

First of all, I want to say thanks to you guys for Folding for KWSN.
But then...
I used to have 7 'puters on this project. 14 cores at an average of ~2.2GHz. That gave me maybe 1200 points per day.
Now I can put a single 2.4GHz quaddie on this project and score >2000 points per day.
A third of the actual computing power giving twice the score?
Where is the logic?
Hard to muster any enthusiasm with scoring like that.
Suppose I could join up my quad-cores and just exploit the system, but it doesn't feel fair or worth-while.
I'll make a short come-back some day to make it over a million, but I'm not going 100% Folding again.
BTW, what happened to Babychunder? |

Can't see anything wrong with exploiting the system with quads? It's all for the science whatever way you contribute, some ways are just more equal than others
The newer wu are killing my ppd though, February looks like a tough month!
fold on!
p.s. where for art thou, BC? _________________ 50 cores - 147 GHz - surely now over 1.0 mpm??? |

Thanks for the support. I have to ask, what 7 comps. My old X2 3800s used to give 600ppd before they were retired. C2Ds give equal(per core performance to quads). Are you using the SMP client? When QMDs were about there was a huge intel advantage, followed by the advent of SMP AMD won on a cost basis. Now intel dominates again.
BC is taking a sabbatical and I am sure will be back. _________________

BC has just spent £860k on a house and is skint. Temporary cash flow problems while I pay stamp duty (£34k), school fees, removals, Jan 31 income tax bill (£37k) plus a humungous eleccy bill for folding. Something has to give and it's DC. That's before her indoors starts picking out these new curtains, etc. I figure once I've paid for the sh1t mentioned here that I'll have two quid left in the building society _________________ - Folding for Fun -

No way!
I currently have one C2D 6300 (1.8GHz) on Folding, and that gets like 200 ppd, so getting 600ppd from a 3800+ sounds very high. Then again, I don't run the SMP client, since I don't run Linux on that box. Perhaps there is a SMP client for Windows these days, but there weren't back when I Folded 100%.
My old machines were something like
3200+
3500+
TL52 laptop
4200+
4600+
4600+
5000+
Ok, so that's just 12 cores , but still, one single Q6600 running the SMP client will leave them all in the dust. |

Guess what.... there is a SMP cilent for windows and has been for a while.
Its quite easy to setup but you will need to have .Net Framework 2.0 installed
Clicky
If you have any problems setting it up just shout and we will be able to help you out.
Just so you know. My E6300 @ 3.0Ghz is doing about 2400PPD with the windows SMP cilent |

And my c**ptop C2D @1.6 when it folded got over 1000ppd win smp. Also use affinity changer 10-15% increase on intel stuff. Or run vmware linux under windows.
It is what we do - fold and optimise others folding potential. Any questions please ask.

I just noticed this. Unless I am wrong, isnt £860,000 roughly $1,720,000 american? If I am right, holy geeze! What business are you in where you can purchase a 1.7 million dollar home? Please tell!!!! because I am switching careers ASAP! _________________

Even out in the sticks my little 3 bed semi is probably still worth over £400k... (despite recent market falls ) _________________ (Sir Furry - Occasional member of the Migratory Coconuts)

Markets change, and not all countries get the same amount of house for cost spent in the US; even though our housing market is largely collapsing in on itself (with the credit industry) right about now.
My Tai Chi teachers go to Hong Kong once a year to study under their sifu. And over there, people rarely entertain guests at their residence... Lets just say (and not cheeply), 300 sq. ft. is not uncommon. Here, while in college, I had an apartment about 2x that for not near the money they put in the things.... And 650 sq ft would be small by our estimations, but not theirs.
They also had a friend who lives in Japan. And when the invitation was given by the senior of my 2 teacher's to come visit in the US, the person explained they couldn't on account of having recently bought a house. My teacher thought "oh that's nice". The person was like, "you don't understand. My grand kids will still be paying the mortgage off on this time. I have no time to visit anyone, as much as I would like, sorry". |

Antigens wrote: | Hey furry what do you think my house would go for in London or your area? | Hi Bruce - long time no hear!
In this area your house would easily go for £800K+ (there are even still some 4/5 bedroom detached houses on the market above £1M - but they will probably be reduced soon). Similar or even higher prices in the right areas of London (don't ask about the wrong areas... )

Seeing as this is the "Reverse" boasting area for property (anywhere) .
Here goes .
Im'a not go'na to boast about my (Forced) DIVORCE some (circa 1990) years ago . And the money the (Deleted) got .
BUT :
Wipped me out (And damm near my business too , run from home as it was ) , and all I could afford - with a NEW mortgage , (after starting again from scratch - i.e. since 1976 and now 1990 ), was a 2 bed house @ £68,000 . Area ~ 2600 sq ft for both floors i.e. footprint = 1,300 sq ft . No Garden to speak of
Worth £180,000 today ( - falling @ 15%/annum at the moment ) . Yeahh - Right . At least I kept the 'Puters alive (updated) through those years , even if SHE (deleted) had reasons to deny it . I.e. - The Kids need an up-to-date Komputer(s) for "Homework/Study/University etc (She got them (to the detriment of WLS and KWSN ) - rule one , Do not deny your children - . Rule Two GENNTLY let your kids know why later when they are of age . They now come and see me more than their mother by a factor of 2 : I.e , last 3 Xmases they both come to my house (AND I make them (4) bloody work for the good-time
Christy , Christy Christy !!! Gone off enough !!!
