I could have broke down today and gotten a new quad system for $600 today but i didn't. Instead i upgraded my RAM to 3 GB and got a couple of other goodies for $200. Wife would have killed me. _________________ When in doubt, kick it until it works. |

Nice new shrubbers you got there !!!
BTW Sir Pappa - you can get G0 Stepping Q6600's for about $220.00 Ea.
New Shrubbers - someone say new Shrubbers -
I have just recently purchased 8 new Q6600 G0's ($205.00, special discount )
I spent the weekend - downgrading - my 8 QX6700 to the Q6600's
You can never not have too little power as was demonstrated in TSP.
Now, with just a little less power I think I can compete with you guys better.
----
Na, really what I am doing is the mobo's that the QX6700's are on would not support overclocking greater than about 3.0 - the Q6600's with G0 stepping can clock the same on these boards as the QX6700's.
Allowing me to now go out and spend more money (something I must do! ) on some nice ASUS Maximus boards that will allow me to clock the QX6700's to 3.6.
--
so, 8 new shrubbers - model - QX6700 clocked at 3.6 soon to be online.
Must not forget the Thermaltake water blocks - the QX's like to run hot, but 98c without a water block is a tad bit warm. Using the waterblock they run stable at 70c _________________ Most Milestone Stats

Nice new shrubbers there Sir Smurfster...
added a couple of Q6600's yesterday as I read the realease dats for the Q9xx series (Q2 2008) and decided I couldn't wait........
they're running on a pretty basic gigabyte mobo, but are running well cool @35'C @100% with arctic frezer's and a re whipser quiet in Antec Sonata 3 cases...
so that's me maxed out as far as boxes go.
All intels...
4 x Q6600 cpu's
2 x 5120 cpu's
2 x 5320 cpu's
1 x T2400 cpu (laptop)
1 x 6300 cpu
Plus a PS/3 running Yellow dog linux. (running yoyo@home)

Yep, I know. I have not actively crunched TSP in several days Dr Vornoffs Hex Machina should now be able to take the top spot there until I decide, if I decide to return to the project. I might just decide to let him keep that top spot for himself, just so he can have a #1 spot ..
I am currently doing battle with Calm Chaos in SHA-1 - then back to Cosmo, QMC and well, what ever else I can find that needs to be shrubbed. _________________ Most Milestone Stats

Well regarding the Q6600. I wanted them but I would have built them on a ASUS Maximus Extreme board with ddr3 and I could not build it for less than $1200 and change. So all in all I decided to build 2 (1 for me and 1 for my buddy, but both shrub for me ) for $1600. I have one up now and it seems to be running just shy of 4 times faster than my other box ( which is still running ) but I am running with a Nvidia 7300 card that I use to work on comps. Damn UPS, I payed for 3 day shipping but it will take 10 days, they won't be here till wednesday.
Not to mention this DFI board seems to be incredibly customizable and is almost future proof. I currently have mine OCed to 3.1 gig rock solid stable and only 47c at full load (2 instances of prime 95 Large fft's ) and 25c Idle, But it will never idle as I shrub. This Thermalright heat sink is unbelievable. If I shut off prime or Boinc and take the machine to idle the temps drop 10c on each core in less than 1 second, No lie. _________________ a.k.a.
