That must mean Lawyers are either zero points (because they're a drain on society) or 10 (because you're doing society a great service). _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

ShoE, you should not have posted that. My brain is now committed to finding the solution, whether I want to or not. I was going to go christmas shopping today, but now I can't think straight, what with all those resistors dancing in my head. My family's christmas is spoiled, thanks to you.
I hope you are happy!! _________________ 0.0 Giggly hertzes Folding!

I really wish I hadn't done that ... Now I have to know ... FOOOOOM!!!

got it ... here's a hint: 10 or less. spoiler follows.
base is less than 10, and the four digits sum to 8.
Here's another ... what sort of motion does this graph represent?
Hint: The red line cannot extend in a straight line forever.

ACK! THere is an error in my hint.
The four digits sum to 8, NOT 10.

Yes, with respect to a particular direction, which is a good clue ...

Close though! spolier: K O and T are correct, which leaves Y and N.
Here's one that has me stumped:
Quote: | The boiling point of olive oil is higher than the melting point of tin. If Italian skillets are made of tinned copper, how can they be used to fry food in olive oil? |
Hmmm ... perhaps a tin alloy or coating doesn't behave the same as tin alone? FOOOOM!!!
Quote: | If you hold a slinky at the top and then let it drop, which way does the bottom of the slinky move initially?
- Down because it is now free to fall?
- Up because you are no longer holding the spring stretched?
- Neither because the bottom of the spring doesn't yet know that you've let go of the top? |
My guess is that it will initially move up, as the spring will contract faster than it will fall. The center-of-mass of the slinky will immediately begin to fall, but the bottom will be pulled up relative to the center. |

It depends if the slinky was compressed or not when you start the experiment. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

The Tinned copper surface in a skillet is a copper-rich tin alloy, which melts higher than just pure tin. If it did melt, it would dissolve more copper till it solidifies again.
Stays put, then moves down. The last coil is at equlibrium with the coil above it, and won't move up unless the coils above it moves up, which won't happen unless coil above it moves up etc etc etc... and the first coil immediately moves down. No telling WHAT happens when the spring coils all slink together. *SLINK*. That'd make the bottom coild sjhooty t out suddenly liek one of those ball things clink clink clink clink help me I'm stuck mommy help!.........
IF a pumpkin thinks about physics, how long until his head explodes in a shower of hot wax and smouldering seeds? _________________ 0.0 Giggly hertzes Folding!

Sorry, I ran out of time to post the picture before (and it wasn't a great picture). The slinky is held at one end (the "top") and allowed to stretch out downwards (but not touching the ground). It is then released at the top. |
