Hi,
I feel akin to a Godlike figure tonight
In an attempt to sidestep these pesky new 3xxx series work units, I've successfully managed to setup VMware with Ubuntu 7.10 as the host OS. Im very happy with this.
Hopefully this should give a small increase over VMware with a Windoze host.
Will report back later with performance stats and some details on how to set it up for those interested.
Cheers,
Rich. _________________ More Power Captain! We Need MORE POWER I Tell You!!

You know the really clever part - now you can clone the VMWare container file, give it a new ID under the console, edit the host name on first start and voila, a whole new army of VMs with all the folding set up ready to go _________________ - Folding for Fun -

Hi BC,
Got the Linux VMware box working well today, stable since last night. Couple of things thou..
The system seems to run VERY slowly with both VMs running But the folding performance is great.
Spec of the machine:-
B3 Q6600 - 375x8=3Ghz
2Gb Corsair DTX PC6400 4-4-4-12 @ 750mhz 1:1
WD 80Gb Caviar IDE Hdd (The source of the slow speed maybe?)
Setup the VMware servers to use 768Mb each, so 512Mb left for the host OS.
~4100ppd @ 3Ghz
My other Quad is running XP64bit host with 2Gb of Ram (5-5-5-15 @ 1233Mhz) with exactly the same setup as the Linux Box.
The only things different are the higher memory clock, cpu clock and a WD Raptor Hdd.
That runs sweet, with no slowdowns or shoddy performance
~5000ppd @ 3.68Ghz
Anyways, now im happy i've sorted all the stability issues out, my ppd should be a bit more consistant. _________________ More Power Captain! We Need MORE POWER I Tell You!!

Starving the host memory? 512 is plenty for a VM. Allocate 1284 to VMWare in total and 512 per machine. _________________ - Folding for Fun -
