On your rig with the 3 GPUs, are you using the Corsair 650 watt PSU to power all of them? (Noticed that it looks like 2 4870s and 1 4850 in there...)

Yep. Does it without a problem. I think it will work with three 4870's, too. I might try it tomorrow since the machine with the single 4870 is running hot.

Did you try 3 4870s in there yet? Inquiring minds want to know...

I didn't get a chance to yet. Too much family time over the past few days Rolling Eyes I should be able to work on it Thursday. My original config with multiple ATI's had all three 4870's in there and everything ran, but I didn't set up the drivers right and wound up switching out one of the 70's for the 50. That time I only hooked up the first card, let Windows apply the driver to the additional card, shut everything down, then hooked up the additional cards to the monitor. Finally, I booted back up and extended the desktop to each card and voila, 9 WU's shrubbing at a time.

Did you see the workaround to get a 4890 running at MW? Larry256 has one, and it is clipping 75 credit WUs at 62 seconds.... Shocked

Shocked is right. Haven't seen it, but I'll definitely take a look.

It take some time, but after some trial and error I got mine to work with Catalyst 8.12.
Extract the 9.6 and the 8.12 drivers to the hard disk. Then go into the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-6_xp64_dd_ccc_enu\Driver\Driver\XP6A_INF\B_81503 dir. and del all the files in the dir.
GO to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\8-12_xp64_dd_ccc_enu_72273\Driver\Driver\XP6A_INF\B_72960 dir. and copy all the files over to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-6_xp64_dd_ccc_enu\Driver\Driver\XP6A_INF\B_81503
Run the setup file in C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-6_xp64_dd_ccc_enu\Driver dir.
The set up will say it cant find files with the ati or amd files that are listed in the ati_0.19f read me.Just find the one it is looking with the other name, copy to your desktop then rename it.Move the file back to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-6_xp64_dd_ccc_enu\Driver\Driver\XP6A_INF\B_81503 dir. hit cont. on the setup screen.Do it for all 5 or 6 files.when the set up is done youll have 8-12 on the 4890.

EDIT
I'm running windows xp64

Verbatum from the MW fora...

Thanks John. I wonder if you need to do that with Vista. I'm running 9.1 on my machines with no problems since I changed the power save option to never turn off the monitor.

68 was our low last night. It's only 81 here, so I think it's either a faulty AC or my bad luck. My wife called me at 6:30 this morning to let me know it was 80 inside.

I'm going to try running just the MW machines to see how that works out then maybe try swapping some cards around so they're in the coolest machines. After that, maybe I'll just try building a case out of a mini-fridge Smile

Don't you have a basement?

That is where my home farm is, and at the moment it is only doing MW...gotta stay where the credits are...

As far as the AC, check to see if the A-coil is frozen...probably low on freon...

Or, just open the windows and enjoy the fresh air...

No basement. When I took a job in DC a year or so ago, we moved from a big house in Ohio to a small apartment with windows that don't open. Don't ask, I didn't pick it. Fortunately, the lease is up soon, so we'll get something a little more suited to actually living in. So instead of something that is 1/4 the size of our house, but with rent twice the mortgage on our house, we'll get something half the size of our house with rent slightly more than twice our mortgage.

The maintenance guy should be around sometime today to check the AC. It's at least cycling now and holding steady at 75 with the MW machines running.

I run mine in the basement as well. Hottest it's gotten inside so far is 74F. I'm planning on a portable A/C unit as soon as it hits 75. Have a window unit from our old place but no window to use it in now. Figure once I build my new machine (some time this year) I'll need more cooling than ambient will provide, considering I'm starting with a 4890 and will be adding a 2nd, as well as a 3850 in the file server.

A basement is definitely on the list of necessities for our next place.

Careful with that one...it isn't recognized by the 8.12 drivers and gives fits to whomever installs one...

Looks like I might be back in business after moving some machines around. We'll see how long it lasts. Worst case is I'll wind up shutting down the two machines I use for GPUGrid.
